I don't want to be an alarmist, but we left Corpus Christi on Wednesday, June 17, and the total virus cases in CC was somewhere over 200, maybe 243 if my memory serves me correctly. Today, less then a week later the total number of cases is 813! The CCP Virus is really on the increase in Texas, including CC. My reason for posting this is just to say be careful and cautious out there. I'm not sure what the secret is to stay safe other than the precautions the medical experts have suggested. Not being cautious can cost you or a member of your family or friends their life, especially if their health is encumbered somehow.
My thoughts and prayers for everyone, be safe!

Without some self discipline by many of the younger members of the population its going to get way worse. Methodist Hosp San Antonio put out a memo to the press last week that said 90% of the new positive cases are 20-29 years old. Many times they are asymtomatic - or in effect TYPHOID Mary's.

Something else to consider, the test are much more available, and often free. And early week will have a jump in numbers from the test from the end of the prior week stacked up.

Keep safe, and keep practicing social distancing out on the sand/water.

it's the unwashed masses coming down here from up north to the beaches bringing it...

I heard some kind of story of some locals that had some friends/framily down from S.A. who came down to the beach, then they were all taking shots from the same bottle, and lo and behold, everyone got sick.....one of the folks finally admitted AFTERWARDS that they were slightly symptomatic and were waiting their COVID test results, but came down anyway!!

not sure where I heard that, shoot, might have been on another thread here...can't remember....

No brains, no headaches!! No common sense. It seems to me that the population of the US may be the most undisciplined in the world. They might end up killing us all.

The mixed msgs coming out of Gov't doesn't help a bit.

Was at Laguna Reef restaurant Saturday evening, May be 5 people out of 60 had masks on. None of the waitress were wearing any masks. Out side deck zero masks. Hate to say but here we go again just when it was peaking.

In typical feces formula, very few in Texas are focusing on the most important stat: mortality rates. In Texas, while infection rates have been increasing over the past month, mortality rates have gone down by more than a third over the same period! Either the virus is losing its teeth (mutation), people in Texas are just more active (not in the at risk category to begin with), or we're just lucky. It may be a combination of all the above. Luckily, you can't catch it from fish...

Just in case you have not been paying attention, people die sometime after they get the virus, so there will obviously be a lag in the increase in deaths, due to the recent increase in infections. If not, then I hope it indicates our medical professionals have learned how to effectively treat the CCP Virus.

"In typical feces formula, very few in Texas are focusing on the most important stat: mortality rates."

As reported by NPR - Interestingly and that which should be of concern to the young who are frequently asymptomatic carriers of Covid-19 is that 95% of those asymtomatics that were checked had multiple "ground glass opacities" in their lungs which never heal and lead to such comforting things as congestive heart failure among other niceties.

Mortality Rates notwithstanding, the long term health impacts of covid-19 may be the worst.

Asymptomatic = Typhoid Mary

I don't think our Medical people know squat yet about Covid-19. They are not Gods who know all. They have had about 120 days to learn all they can.

All I know is I don't want to get it. By the Grace of God I was prompted last June to buy a second home in Arkansas. GREAT fishing and little Covid-19.

Interestingly, the CDC report issued this morning noted that the mortality rate for the entire State of Texas last week was less than .5% among those infected-- yes, that is POINT five percent: 5500 new cases, 27 deaths. Not to belabor the point, but from a statistical standpoint, since nationwide testing began we're looking at a TOTAL infection rate of .8%. Again, statistics from this morning's CDC report. Lastly, and also from the CDC, almost all Texas counties (excluding Harris) have seen "full recovery" in over 50% of confirmed cases. Lastly, mortality from COVID-19 is typical in the first 7-14 days after infection, with almost 95% of all deaths occurring in that time frame...so fast because most are already in at-risk populations.

To be clear, I am not saying we should not be careful or responsible. Most importantly, I am not saying nor do I mean to suggest that ANY illness or loss of life is statistically unimportant. What I am saying is, keep your minds open and look at the basic facts. Be responsible. But live your life. And go fishing. Very Happy

Here is a study by an A&M professor confirming the effectiveness of wearing a mask for protection against the CCPVirus:https://www.pnas.org/content/early/2020/06/10/2009637117

[DISCLAIMER: The following is entirely second hand info and nowhere near official, so take it with a grain of salt, literally.]

So I was visiting family in San Antonio last weekend, and one of my extended family members knows someone that is on the research team at UTHSC, supposedly 1 of the 3 big research centers in the country working on a vaccine. The researcher confided in my relative, saying that not only are they nowhere close to figuring out a vaccine yet, but far as all 3 research centers can tell, the virus was created in a lab.

Yes, it may have been 'unleashed' in one of those dirty "wet markets" as a cover, but I've believed this since day 1. The government is keeping us hopeful for a vaccine when it has none; no one is holding China accountable for what is essentially biological warfare or even trying to investigate it to prove this, and we're all sitting around wearing these paper masks being told to keep 6 feet apart from each other when droplets from a sneeze can travel as far as 24 feet. And yes, as an essential worker, I may be/have been an asymptomatic carrier myself for a long time (I work in an airport...the PORTAL to how it got here), and it leaves me wondering what the long term effects will be.

History is repeating itself; look at the Influenza virus outbreak exactly 100 years ago...what were they doing? Wearing face coverings and gas masks in public, yet it still killed millions. Every century has its 'epidemic' or 'pandemic' - this is ours. But could it be, that maybe this time it's human-created? Question Shocked
