This was my grandfather's boat (he passed in 91), and I just had it restored. About to hang a motor. It's a 1977 Vannoy - all wood. Not on the water yet, but give me a week or two and it's on.

thats what Sidney Vanoy called a narrow, he also built a wide. look it up if you havent already . pretty cool history. Stoner copied the design and began making the fiberglass version. the vanoy is wood fiberglass it a battleship made for punishment. The wide commercial can haul lots of weight and run shallow. thats a bada_ _ boat. my brother owned about 3 vanoys. one was a 16 with a 115 it would really go. cool mike.

Yeah Stan, there is a really cool/shady history of those boats. I have heard all the outlaw stories that come up when you just mention the name Vannoy. I heard the TPWD went to Vannoy to get him to make boats for them, but he refused, so they went to Stoner. I am really excited about it. .

my brother was a business man that played outlaw with the commercial boys back in the 80s. The story is true, Sidney slammed the door in their faces. It was a cat and mouse game and most of the time the outlaws won. Mostly because they could run the bays at night and out powered the game wardens......back then. My brothers 21 vannoy had two 150 mariners and and a friend had a 26 vannoy with two 200s hannging of the stern. both had big hiddey holes. If you ever want to hear some up close in person stories let me know i'll take you to the man.

That's alot of horses on the back of that boat. I talked with Sid not too long ago and he remebered my grandfather. Spoke to a guide the other day who told me about running at night with tons of fish and no nav lights (starlight only) so they would go undetected. You bet I'd like to hear more stories. Maybe I will make the next Porch meeting and you can give me some then.

No boat here, probably never have one. If I can graduate to a yak, I will be watering in tall cotton.
Island Mike, that looks like it is going to be one heck of a boat.
Family ties, functional, and retro cool. I bet you keep it forever or pass it down thru the gene pool.
Post up when you get her up and running.
