Lots of boats have been launching there. Bluff landing is closed but the ramp is open

the boat launch is operating on the honor system....there are some envelopes by the front door of the bait shop...you put your money in one and write your make and model of your truck along with license plate number and put it in the mail slot....

I wonder how many people are honoring it. Bet not a lot unfortunately. I'm sure the shop could use the income with all of their other sales being squashed.

I remember the trip we made to Wisconsin a few years ago, and at nearly all of the 7-11/Circle K type gas stations were 'honor system' sweet corn stands. Had a price sheet, and a small lock box to put your money in. Even saw a couple of bundled firewood stands, along the same honor system.

I felt really bad knowing in my heart that these stands would last 2 hours here in South Texas. Crying or Very sad

If they're asking for such information, I guarantee they have more than one camera watching and will process charges for every user that does not pay the fee.

I remember when I was a kid on Medina Lake, there was an "Honors System" boat ramp at one of the main stays. That was before all the wireless technology and easy HD cam setups came along though, so I think that one was truly an Honors system. I think my dad and I launched there once - he wasn't a huge fan of their ramp..."too steep" he said. I don't remember if he paid or not. My guess is no. Wink Laughing

Any of you familiar with Medina will remember it for its heyday. Now it's merely a pond. Crying or Very sad

Actually Medina has come up quite a bit. It is about 80% full right now. I will start going down again when the farmers in Medina county start draining it for irrigation.

I know, always has been the same. It's not a constant-level lake like LBJ,,,but it really did have its hayday in the 1980s, and I have the maps and brochures to prove it. I wish it would come back to where it was, but I don't foresee that happening.

I have also fished it for many years including in the 1980's. Caught a lot of bass, crappie, and catfish out of it. The state bass record for many years was a medina lake fish. That held until the Florida hybrids were brought into Tx. But you're right it will never be a constant level lake. It is owned by the medina irrigation district and was paid for by the farmers downstream. They have the right to drain it dry if they want.

The water drops into diversion lake right below the medina damn. Diversion lake is constant level and the irrigation channels start at the end of diversion lake. From there, on google earth, you can follow the aqueducts for miles and miles as it winds down through the farm country below medina lake. Interesting to follow that channel, you would never know it was there just driving around in that farmland.

Another interesting note on Medina. I was built by the conservation corps in the 1930's from huge limestone cut to fit interlocking blocks and it does not have any concrete in it. It's the only dam in the country that has no concrete. Quite an engineering feat.

That would be unfortunate, and probably result in the ramp being closed in short order.

Medina Lake was paid for originally with a lot of help from Medina Valley Farmers Association for irrigation for the Valley. The pld acua duct is still there in some spots.

Love the Honor System, Use to be a Folgers coffee can for donations below the lake on Williamson creek to go down and check out dinosaur tracks. Also on 281 South near Whitsett a can for money when you take a pint of Honey. Still some places like near Harper you leave money for eggs.

Was about to post this but you beat me to it. I would buy honey on occasion when I used to fish and hunt down in that area.

That "old" aqueduct is still in use today.
