The front pushed the finger mullet into the river. The night bite under the lights is on. Flounder, slot reds, even a couple of snook. Also a lot of sand trout.

We stayed in a rental house on the river not far from the intercoastal drawbridge for an unofficial family reunion years back...the place had a small dock on the river with a crab trap....we boiled up like 20 blue crabs one night from one haul...and then we fished at night and saw all the alligator gar looking at us.

Didn't catch much on pole even though we knew saltwater fish were moving through, but the crab thing always stuck out in my head. Might have been them tapping on the sides of the pot as they boiled to death, might have been the first time our uncle let us drink underage...either way it was a good time. Laughing

Point being, I can imagine up river a ways being a hot spot during certain migrations...to back up your original post.

Shocked Nothing dark and foreboding about that story as we approach Halloween!!!

$10 says every one of those crabs was a big 'ol male, a.k.a. a 'Jimmy', as they are known in the business. They move to freshwater, and that's why you see so many traps in the tidal section of all TX rivers!!
