Hello everyone, new to the forum and also the Corpus area as I've moved here last semester at TAMUCC. I am mostly a bass fisherman but have been trying to get into saltwater fishing as I find it more exciting; however, I spent most of last year being either skunked outside of flounder season. Can anyone spare some tips for the next half year or so of fishing? On another note does anyone know where is hiring because I need a job too? Very Happy

What kind of fishing you wanna do will help us give advice. (Kayak, wading, boat, surf etc...) theres lots of knowledge on here, just need to narrow it down a bit.

Generally, now is a good time to possibly hook into one of the heaviest fish around in the laguna madre. Find a channel, the ICW or Humble channel to name a few, and soak some crab or sea lice (mantis shrimp) on the bottom. The big drum are showing up and will be here in good numbers til mid to late March usually. Try Clems pier, marker 37, red dot, or cos way piers. If you pair that info with the accessibility of a kayak you'll be in for a hell of a ride.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the advice and sorry for not specifying. I generally like to fish in the surf and from land in the bay (I don't own a kayak but I'm saving up for one!). My go to spots are usually Bob Hall, the intercoastal turnaround, and all around the Packery area.

At the ICW turnaround you should be able to pull up some of those big drum if you can reach the channel with a cast.

Also sheepshead should be showing up in good numbers along the pilings on Bob Hall. Try dropping live shrimp, small crabs as close to the pilings as you can with a stout small hook and enough weight to get it down. It can get pretty crowded when the bite is on. Also have a drop net or heavy enough line to flip them up over the rail. I've seen the majority come from 3/4 of the way to the end all the way to the T.

The jetties are another place to target them. If you arent getting stuck on a rock once in a while, you arent fishing close enough to the rocks.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to Bob Hall tonight and I'll try out what you said, also going to be hitting the ICW for the week and see if I can't pull out any drum. I'll be checking in with what happens.

Along the causeway between red dot And in intercostal there's a gut that runs parallel to the road about 30 yards out. When the drum are running I've had a lot of success catching them in that gut. Shrimp and fish bites is all you need

It's a bit early for them to be in numbers yet at bob hall. Give it a month and itll be lots better.

And Zia is right. I always forget about that channel but know people that pull fish out consistently.

And X2 on the shrimp and fish bites, sometimes they work when nothing else will.

Also try port a and give the caldwell pier a try. Its basically bobhall pier but in a different area and sometimes that is the real deal breaker. Lots of piers are busted at the moment but I have done lots of scouting and if you need more locations or land based fishing spots just ask.

Went fishing a couple times so far, tried out at the ICW but went at night so I had no idea if I was casting past the channel or in front of Laughing and ended being skunked. Also tried to fish the bridge between TAMUCC and the Airbase/Airport and ended up being locked in by the security haha. Had no idea they closed the road down at 6. Luckily I wasn't the only one locked in so I didn't feel alone lol. Spent a half hour out there before I could get ahold of a number to let me out.

Lol. It happens. Good thing is they eventually let you out haha. That's not a bad spot either. Lots to get hung up on under the bridge.
