Gulf Council to Hold a Special Council Meeting to Take Final Action on State Management of Recreational Red Snapper.

Yea, it's in Tampa, on the 18th, but it looks like there may be some final resolution of the State's Exempted Fishing Permits. Mostly they were under the targets, save for FL, but "Hey, who's counting, right"???

The following link has all of the Meeting details and the webinar registration info.

Yeah.. Like the one wolf that was guarding the hen-house, who told his guard buddy, "Now, Now, Ralph.... let's not do that again, O.K."? (While he picks his teeth with a wingbone). Confused

but now hold the phone! "someone" didn't get the notice in the Federal Register in time, so now they can't legally take action, and the meeting has been canceled....

this looks suspiciously like kicking the can down the road in order to either pocket veto or let the EFP's naturally sunset?

well, here's the answer to that question....from the GC newsletter....CHECK THIS CRAP OUT!!!
Becky

The Council added a new alternative, and made it the preferred, which would allocate the private angling annual catch limit among the states as follows:

Alabama 26.298%

Florida 44.822%

Louisiana 19.120%

Mississippi 3.550%

Texas 6.210%

This alternative uses the quotas initially requested by each state in the exempted fishing permit applications, and distributes the remaining 3.78% between Florida and Alabama.

You beat me to the punch about the whole Fed Register SNAFU, so it looks like the next regular Council Meeting in Biloxi will be the place for any Final, Final Action.

Yea, the preferred alternative does smell like gas station sushi....... Confused

MRIP and all of it's kissing cousins over the years.

We (TX) don't participate, and only have State creel data numbers to go on for "hard data". So yea, those are the #'s.

Likely WAY more in line with the LA %. But, "it is what it is".

[Edited] - So, next time you (and that's a general 'You', not directed at any specific individual) fly by the Creel Survey station and opt out because you don't trust 'The Man', this is the only logical conclusion.
