Looks like its going to cost us 7 a month , to check out the water around the pier now. I am sure it costs them a pretty penny to operate that camera, the internet connect, etc. I am sure they were hoping for ad bucks to cover it.

You may have noticed the one at malaquite is a wee bit from the water, and is at malaquite and not bob hall, and stays dirty for a lot longer than the one on bhp. I have a set of webcams links from up and down the coast, the one at BHP is/was the best.

So send Texas Surf Reports $7 every month. The restaurant gains nothing and gets the negative feed back.

Saw that yesterday, Donnie. Was hoping it was just an error. Now that I clicked through it I believe you're right, it's intentional. Oh well. You're right it was one of the best cams in the area, but I'm not paying them for it and I don't think most the viewers that were using it will, either. So let's wait them out and see how long before they go back to paying for it with ads again, or just take it down completely. If I'm going to pay for something like that, I want controls and high definition! That one had neither. Look at the one they have in Galveston, fully user-controlled with several angles to choose from (and it's one of the free ones!)

(I think they got a new cam management company after Harvey wiped it out last time, maybe they're the ones behind it.)

The worst part is, the other cams on their site are still free (because they're all provided by third parties like the one at Caldwell - which is still down). I wish the city would get the St. Augustine & Whitecap cams operational again, I enjoyed those as well.

Would that be awesome to have controls over this one - it seems to be high quality - and i would love to check - like the first two lights of the pier and the crowds there late at night, this time of year. Or focus on the water clarity. Well, anyway, lets hope they reconsider.

Bingo. Nothing like a good, old fashioned boycott to put greediness in its place. Or at least, squeeze them for features that make it more worth considering paying for.

Yes the Whitecap cam was awesome and you could control it. I wouldn't call the owner of the Bob Hall cam greedy. He's a friend of mine and a surfer. I asked him over a year ago how he could afford all of that bandwidth. He couldn't unless he had some major sponsors.

We've looked into those cams at Friends of Padre and they are really expensive.

Cool!

But I have a feeling that won't last long.
