When I come down to pins for just a day I try to get to the beach at day light or shortly there after. Last time I was there not too many people in the 5 miles.
However when we were leaving about 3pm, tons more as you know. I am thinking of staying a little longer but I dont want to get caught up in the mass exodus of the general beach goers. What window / time frame does that start so I can get out before that? _________________ Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. (Fishing is one of those things ) |

In my experience, it's pretty much sunrise & sunset. Day trippers. Not there to fish, just beach. Going in avoid 7-9am, going out avoid 4-6/7pm. I may be wrong, but seems accurate in my experiences. And of course, that changes with the seasons and the prime summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day). I've spent some beautiful September and October days out there in 80+ weather and perfect conditions with not a soul in sight in the first 5 miles, on weekends!
P.S. - I've waited until after dark many times, but hope you have fog lamps on your vehicle because that sea fog does set in fairly often. But the day trippers will be gone by then; all you'll have to worry about is the campers and drunks. On a moonless night, you can't see anything, even with fog lamps. I've experienced that and so has my dad - neither of us want to again, If you MUST leave, go SLOW. Otherwise, you're better off sleeping in the vehicle or setting up camp until daylight. This decision, of course, should be made as you come IN and see how driving conditions are. I wouldn't dare risk trying to get out in poor driving + dense fog + moonless surf.*
(* Unless there was an imminent tide to the dunes. Then I'd take my chances, but usually the rangers warn folks long before they plan on closing the gate.) _________________ All things will pass. Have a Blessed day. |
