| I am coming down Thursday (7-12-2018) to Port Aransas from San Antonio for the day to do some nearshore snapper/ling/king fishing with a couple of my military friends. I have SCOURED every nook and cranny in ever forum looking for GPS coordinates to oil rigs and any other structure that will hold fish. The only thing I found was TPWD's reefs which I noted the ones in my range. I am planning on purchasing any readily available maps that might help. Any insight/tips/coords would be greatly greatly appreciated. I will be staying pretty close in case the weather turns. Currently the wind and waves look awesome. I will be in a 20 foot aluminum flat bottom boat with a 115 yamaha 4 stroke and a 18 gallon fuel cell (will carry more). PM me if preferred.. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

Hilton's maps are the best. Unfortunately many of the rigs we used to enjoy were removed over the last several years. The best bet is Hospital rock but that is 30 miles from Port Aransas. _________________ Live like you're dying |

A lot of the information you find on the commercial maps is out of date ESPECIALLY when it comes to oil rigs. Also, a lot of the artificial reefs out there are buried due to storms or were just not very big to begin with. (Fish haven for example) I know for a fact that a lot of the listed structure has not been there for 15 years or more or the location is off by hundreds of yards. Remember, a lot of those GPS coordinates are conversions from the old LORAN data and were never physically verified.
If you don't want to make a run out to the rocks, your best bet is to just go out thru the jetties and start hopscotching rigs that you see or go fish around the ships at anchor. The artifical reef project 10 miles out of Packery channel is worth a look although I have not been out there since before the hurricane. |

| I sure appreciate the replies.. I guess I will target rigs. Do you know if there is a database I could get the rig coordinates from or just take binoculars and roll with it? |

just head out to the anchorage (lots of boats out of the port A jetties, you won't miss them, I promise!)...
troll around them and get your buddies on some kings...who knows, maybe you'll get a sail...
don't make it too difficult and rely on ##'s...
