Made it to the sticks last Thursday (3/15) mid morning. Was windy and overcast but didn't care because I was on the beach. Drove down to Big Shell and then drove back up to around mm15 to set up camp for the day. Bite was non existent until about 3. From 3-6 pulled in several whiting and a few Pomps.
Friday morning I drove to the jetties and then slowly made my way back north stopping and casting in several places. All I was able to land were whiting and I pulled in quite a few. Made it back up to MM 10 to set up camp again, was leaving early Sat so didn't want to have to cover a ton of beach early in the morning. I fished until about 7:00 and again was catching mainly whiting. I did however catch one fish that I hadn't seen before and not sure what it was. He swallowed the hook but I was able to get it out and he swam away back in to the surf. It was grey with whitish spots and maybe 10-12 inches long, fatter at the end and tapered off towards the tail. I have a pic I just need to figure out to post it here.
It was a short trip but needed. Hadn't been on the sand in months and was nice therapy. |

If it was indeed a stargazer, consider yourself lucky that you came out unscathed.

on the topic of stargazers, are they rare for these waters?? Ive only caught one, in the surf a few years back. I had never seen one or didn't know if they were venomous, when i later looked it up, i was glad i didn't touch it with my bare hands |

Not at all, in the surf especially. Rare being caught, on hook and line though. During the 'rojo troubling times', they are numerous on the beach. |

this definitely what I caught and based on it's prehistoric look I was careful when handling, have seen way to many people learn that the hard way. |
