| I just saw in the paper this morning that Sydney Vannoy passed away. Just wanted to bring his name to everyone's attention. I'm sure everybody who knew Sydney has some fantastic stories to relate or recall.[/u] |

I knew Sidney. Smart man . Built the best boat ever for hauling weight in shallow water . Commercially that is. The Vannoy skiff . He built 3 for my older brother Sam Gordon who out ran a many a Game warden in the dark of night back in the Redfish war days. I think my brothers biggest was a 21 but his fastest was a 19 with a 225 Johnson . The longest Vannoy I ever saw was Carley's it was a 26 ft with 2 ,200 Johnson's on the stern.. I could go on forever . The Vannoy skiff with it's awesome bow rake which comes from the included angles of the stern, spreader, and a bow block gave each skiff a definite look. Copied by others in fiberglass with different names. Sidney's boats were wood with handlaid fiberglass. His boats now are a work of art. RIP Sydney. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

He was one of a kind and an exceptional boat builder. A friend of mine bought and old wooden boat on a decent triler a few years back for the trailer. He was going to scrap the boat, but when he discovered in was a 14 Vannoy, he did a little work on it, painted it , hung a 25 mariner on it and we caught a lot of fish out of that boat! _________________ Wishin I was fishin!

| RIP Sidney Vannoy. I owned a 15 ft skiff he built with a 70 evinrude. I loved that boat and how it handled on the water. I regret selling everyday. He was definitely a master boat builder. |

This is the first I've ever heard of Mr. Vannoy, but I think I missed meeting an interesting guy. If anyone has any photos of his hulls I would love for them to post them on here or just PM me. R.I.P. Mr. Vannoy. |

| I with Sydney at Flour Bluff High School back when kids can still take "shop". We would sit around during lunch and listen to his stories in awe all the time. Funny stories about running away from game wardens in the dark of night and how they would use Oleander leaves on trotlines to catch fish |
