Anyone? Anyone....... Bueller, Anyone?

O.K. Here is the backstory.
Yesterday, down south of Bob Hall, running along and like always, if I run across a dead fish, I'll always cruise by it to see what it is.

Well..... Between marker 284 and 287, I counted no less than 6 of these, all about the same size.

Hazard a guess? Shocked

[Oh Yea, the tar was sloppy nasty, and about all I saw landed were good sized gafftops].

Looks like a largemouth or other freshwater bass to me. Especially the second picture, looks like the black spots down the lateral line.

Definitely a bass of some kind, though very strange to see a freshwater one where you found it, much less 6. Maybe it's a sick striper, or sea bass?

I'm amazed to see you with a what is it post!!! Your usually the one who answers! lol

That looks exactly like a largemouth bass to me! I've seen them in brackish water before but hard to believe they would be in the surf! Think the might have been dumped? Were they in the same spot?

I knew what it was, after a much closer inspection. I just wanted to put it out there for laughs. All 6 were scattered within 3/10th of a mile.

Only other time I was as completely stumped was when I happened upon the Bat-Man Ray (and yea, that's the scientific name for that genetic defect)

I still have him in a jar in my Office.

Not a black sea bass. I pulled the first dorsal fin up just to confirm that it was separate from the second dorsal, plus check out the differences in the caudal fins. LMB have lightly fork tail, with rounded lobes, whereas a black sea bass have a double truncate caudal with pointed lobes.

that's what I'm thinking....someone was planning on using them for bait...

I've seen some weird stuff dumped on the beach before....likely they were stinking in a bucket, and someone dumped the bucket out in the first gut....hence the spread of them along a few markers...

I agree Becky. My guess was that with the loads of shark fisherman out this weekend, somebody from an inland location brought them from their stock tank with the hopes of using them for bait. But it sure took my by surprise on the beach! Shocked

Which opens up a whole other can of worms. LMB are a gamefish, and as such, are illegal baits!

Corner of the mouth extends to a line behind the eye - largemouth bass, definitely.
