Hi All,
Looking for some advice on how to camp/fish Matagorda Island if the cold water this week shuts down my PINS plans. I suppose I'd like to check out Matagorda Island anyways at some point, so provide me with some tips if ya don't mind...
Thanks in advance - EC |

You would get more info on 2 Cool Fishing as they are closer and more familiar with that area. The island is actually a peninsula unless you have a boat to navigate to the actual island. The road down to Matagorda town is paved all the way to the beach where there is a nice rv park run by the navigation district(I think) which parallels the Colorado River where it spills into the Gulf. If you want to drive out and camp on the beach itself there is a road just before you get to the rv park but it is advisable to have four wheel drive for this entry. You can surf fish and fish the river for salt species as well as kayak the sloughs and back bays close by. Reservations are usually required at the camp ground as it is very popular. Hope this helps. Check out the surf fishing threads on 2 Cool as they are always talking about this area. _________________ Mike |
