Hey guys, gonna be running down the ditch at night and early morning this summer and was wondering about a light or lights to mount on my console grab bar that would allow me to do that. Trying to keep it simple. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I have the Plashlight 20" Led bar on my burn bar and it will light up the markers for 2 miles on a clear morning and 1 mile on a hazy morning
When it was mounted to the grab rail there was a lot of glare from the bow. Once I had the burn bar made and raised the light its the best money I have spent on the boat. I am frequently running at night. If you cant raise it maybe you could mount it temporally on the bow.

Yes, I considered that as well. We would like to get to cedar bayou before dawn. Not sure how to get there without some sort of lights though. How do you guys run to Baffin and back in the dark?

I have also heard some people say it's illegal to run any lights other than navs. Anyone know about that?

Your best bet is a grab bar mounted spotlight. You can operate it with your hand and turn it on/off easily to spot obstacles/buoys without blinding others. The controlled beam is much better than a glaring light bar. You could go with handheld, but that is best if you have a copilot while you control the boat. Otherwise, mounted is a whole lot easier.

Some use their GPS track they have saved, but on a night with a moon light it's much easier than during a new moon period. I keep a spot light for spotting markers, poles, etc. However, that is not to say running at any speed at night is not dangerous, light or no light. I can recall one night when I was headed south on the intercoastal canal and almost hit a marker pole without a marker on it! I turned just before hitting it! A short while later I spotted a marker some distance away, and as we approached it we realized it was on land and leaning up against a small building! Needless to say I am not opposed to one using a light to make sure they are safe, but the expense will be our own night vision, and the guy coming from the other direction, especially if we are not considerate in how we use the light.

I had a tall burn bar built by Blue Streak that has an area i can stand on for sight casting. It also was a great spot to mount my light bar. I run to the cabin at night a lot and it lights the way without the deck blinding. Here is a link to a pic. Post #18 http://2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/showthread.php?t=2006329&page=2
