I know I know.... Why am I asking for fishing reports when I myself have not contributed.

Although I try and hit the sand as much as possible that does not mean the report includes "Fish"...

This is more just a general question.

In recent years it seems that you can't find as many reports. Not just on this forum but others as well. I don't know where to look anymore.

2yrs ago or so during the hot fishing months you would see report after report from PINS, SBH, Bob Hall and the Packery.

Have the fish not come in yet?

Is it because of Red Tide?

Are people just not posting as much as they use to?

Weather??

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Shoot I remember when I used to read reports from the TeamOSO boards, Breakaway boards, and here. I think SFCCI had a board too. I think Facebook ate away at a lot of the reports that people used to post here and elsewhere. I kind of blame gas prices, especially when they sky-rocketed years ago, and then the 2008 slump for knocking out a lot of people's leisure time activities too.

I'm guilty too. Sometimes I take a quick beach trip (like I did Tuesday), but don't post because I figure it's not noteworthy. I guess I'm part of the problem lol.

I'm going in the morning....the fish are there, I just have to catch them. My last 2 trips a week ago did not produce. Tides have been extremely high. Today there was reports of redfish being caught in the surf. Tomorrow I hope we produce in the backyard Very Happy Very Happy . Good luck fishing. IMS

Speaking only for myself...this summer has been mostly way too hot for me to do much fishing, and when I did go fishing, it was fishing and not catching. I have gone more than one whole 6 hour day fishing without a bite [hardheads don't cont]. I figured that no one wanted to hear about that.

I went today; weather was nice. Fished from 9:30-1:30 in ULM and caught not a single keeper. I did catch two under sized trout and one underized red on topwaters, and then one small croaker on fishbites...caught in Packery channel/flats area.

I want to start by saying this forum is awesome with a ton of helpful info.

I will give my opinion on why the fishing reports have gone missing.

If someone were to give a report let's say at packery, and they caught a limit of reds. Within a few hours packery would be shoulder to shoulder full combat fishing.

The Internet and cellphones have allowed info to spread like wildfire and people who used to post realize that.

Hopefully I don't piss anyone off with this but it the bitter truth.

To be honest, many of the people that used to contribute valuable reports, tips and information eventually faced some rebukes by people that often were not regulars on this board. But they stirred the pot, nonetheless. Many of the targets were guides, ones with buckets of experience willing to share what was happening on the water and I can tell you it was very helpful. But recipients of abuse usually don't ask for it again when they are trying to be altruistic. And so, here we are. We've got Stan, Ziacatcher and a few others still willing to post but many others have given up. Wish it wasn't so.

Perhaps we can learn as much from failure, which is what my last trip to the beach was, sort of. Went to access rd 2 Sunday. Chunked dead shrimp, cut whiting and skipjack on a 6# circle fishfinder as far as i could throw it. Started at daylight and stayed until 3:30. Current was strong to the south. Got bit off by a blueish...saw him in the air...on the 20lb floro...switched to 80 lb. mono and killed the bite. Stuck the weight, no dice. Went home empty. Climate was great. Fishing on a outgoing tide. Wife and I had a great day on the beach while son went to bday party at Port Royale. Bent my front fender on a post there. Ticked me off. Water was my only drink. Great day on the beach. Nothing in the freezer.

I will post more from Seadrift Port Occonor area but it does not seem like many on this site fish much this far.

On a better note I will be fishing Baffin Sat and Sun and will post info and results.

I fish most of the port o Connor area too. But I will post up reports as well. This has been a great forum. I will admit I am more of a kayak guy but will be with a HOW group on Saturday kayak fishing nighthawk so I will post up. And croakersoaker we need to go fishing again but not in the evening. The mrs wasn't happy about Mikey getting home late. Haha

I'm new to the forum and fishing PINS. It's 4 hours from home in Austin to the PINS entrance and the reports I see here are a HUGE help in understanding what conditions we'll be getting into before making that drive. Thanks to all of you who post and maintain the forum! Let's keep the reports coming...Smile
