I've been fishing paddletail baits for a long time but have recently wanted to get into jerk baits, specifically ball tail shad by KWigglers. Does anyone have a suggestion for their retrieval? Is it less swim with the reel and a constant twitch? Also, what are the recommended jig size for these baits? I've been fishing Gambler and K Wiggler paddletail baits using a 1/8oz jig and finding tons of fish but I keep getting told that a 1/4oz would be better. Any truth to that? Thanks for the help guys. _________________ fought for my country so you dont have to |

| I'll throw just a normal old freshwater jerkbait with salt water hooks sometimes. Mainly to get under groups of feeding skippys. I just crank and jerk...it's a jerk bait! |

| With jerk baits the bite is almost always on the fall. Some times you have to give it big hops off the bottom to trigger a bite and other times little ones. Just experiment until you figure it out. I have found that the lightest jighead that you can get away with will keep the lure falling longer and thus increase your chances of getting bit. I hope that helps. |

All manner and variations of retrieves are acceptable.
You can fast twitch it, you can slow reel it, and any method or manner in between.
For the grass flats stick with the 1/16th and 1/8th head. The quarter is for 7-8'' plus water. Or fishing for flounder. |

I just do a pop pop and let it drop. Water depth and the height of the grass will tell me what to do. With the pop pop let it drop my rod tip is always up and the pop pop action is not always the same. Sometimes it's nice and easy and sometimes it's aggressive. You will eventually come up with your own natural technique. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |
