PINS Red Tide Live Update - 1pm Wednesday.

Conducted another survey. As of 1pm, light to NO aerosols were detected from the the blacktop to the 25, with nothing detected south of the high banks. There were NO DEAD FISH OBSERVED the entire length of the beach. Unlike yesterday, bird action returned along with baitballs offshore starting in the 30s. Water is churned up and dirty north of 30 perhaps temporarily choking off the bloom. With the forecast having conditions calm down the next few days, it is possible the present K. brevis cells could bloom once again. In reiteration, the false image posted by KRIS TV is not of this red tide event, nor this year, and is heavily misleading in the media outlet. In addition, despite aerosols being present the past couple of days, there has NOT been any documented proof of any suspected 'Fish Kill' as being promoted that I am aware of. These are the current conditions and due to the nature of red tide episodes it could always turn for the worse at anytime.

Glad to hear no dead fish yet. That Friends of Padre report had me worried that a big kill was already underway with the driving caution. Not to say it won't happen, but hoping is all we got at this point.

FYI, the Texas Parks and Wildlife site is reporting a small fish kill from 0 to 25 on PINS. PINS staff (whatever that means) has supposedly confirmed the kill. I'm on Oz's side -- better to be optimistic while ya can Very Happy

I am absolutely puzzled by this 'kill'. Driving 240 beach miles the past 24 hours I have not seen a single dead fish on the beach. Now there are light aerosols up north, but no fish.

I was a little annoyed that KIII did the same thing by airing footage of the last big fish kill while talking about this last night. Very misleading.

We saw 2 dead fish on the beach early this morning at about the 2 mm. With the bird migration going on there are birds the length of the beach and they were feeding on both of them. Unless there is a large fish kill you may not see any dead fish as the birds will get to them quickly. Wednesday there were around a dozen dead fish at first light just south of the 20 in a small area. Again, unless you drove by them shortly after we passed them you would not see them. Anyone driving by 12 hours later claiming there were never any dead fish on the beach is incorrect. Jeff Wolda

I clearly said that dead fish may or may not have washed in prior, just when I drove it there were zero observed both times. Two random mullet one day and a dozen mullet another day on 60 miles of beach doesn't constitute as a certified fish kill, and necessarily one directly responsible from a red tide.

Either way, fish or no fish, just the rumor of fish kills definitely sucks. I wanna thank both of you guys for posting up reports and keeping us informed with first hand accounts of what you saw. Sounds like it's minimal now, let's just hope and pray that it doesn't get worse. This is entering my favorite time of the year to surf fish, and i sure could use a PINS get away right about now....

I think we are all in agreement that it could be a lot worse at this point, despite the likely inevitability that we may get hit hard somewhere within the next week. All fishermen are 'brothers' and all I was doing was relaying what I actually observed.

See you guys on the sand!

The first thing I noticed in the footage on KRIS TV6 was that the beach was covered with seaweed.

I thought WTH?

Here's what happens in TV news. They probably thought it would be easier to use canned footage and be able to air the story quickly than to send a crew all the way out there to show no fish. But they should have said that was file footage from another event. I agree it is misleading.

There is a bright side to the footage....maybe it'll keep the first 20 miles of beach a little less crowded. Very Happy

Never let reality get in the way of a good story?!

When we did the water samples we saw a total of three dead fish near the 19mm all fresh large hard heads. I do not know if a fisherman threw them up on the beach or Red Tide got them.
