I saw a shrimp boat that appeared to be working in the Meadows yesterday. Can shrimpers go where ever they can draft and pull nets? This was a deeper portion of the meadows, but still not an area I would think they could operate due to bottom damage.

one of our first shrimp boats was flat bottom with a tunnel type hull. It could go pretty shallow. I don't know what the rules and boundaries are up here. I wonder if that boat was out of Rivera.

A sport netter has specific bays they can use their nets, so I would imagine commercial netters have similar rules. Maybe the TXP&W site might state where they can work?

. I don't know if it was a flat bottom or not, but it had the full set of draw works off the back. Sharp V bow design. Looked to be about a 30 footer or so.

I remember the flat bottoms with the nets on the front. I bet those things could run pretty shallow.

I was running the icw, and saw him right behind those islands on the west side across from the mouth of baffin. Just seemed like an odd place to see one.

ours was 35ft pulled door and net off the stern. Had a 6 cylinder flathead. It was mostly used to shrimp from Arroyo City to the mouth.

could have been the same design you're talking about. I didn't get close enough to see. he had a gaggle of seagulls following him though, and it looked like his nets were out.

although... I suppose if the corp of engineers can dump 87 million metric tons of dredge material on the grass in the meadows a shrimp boat isn't the worst thing that can happen back there.

that's curious....are you sure he wasn't doing something else? a lot of people use shrimp boats to haul lumber and other supplies to cabins down there.....although the birds working behind it may mean he was dragging....

there are more than a few derelict crab traps in the meadows, so a shrimper working through there for a week or so might actually help things out (if he actually kept the traps out of the water when he snagged them)...

and it's very curious why one would go in the meadows, when the shrimp are hanging out in Riviera channel and the ICWW, where the temps are nicer, and the currents are better....

and I'm pretty sure there's a rule that shrimpers can't drag in the seagrass beds, at least south of the causeway....

interesting....

I was just passing by in the ICW and saw him back there. A couple days before I saw a bunch of porpoise in the area jumping clear out of the water, so I was trying to see if they were back there again.

he could have been dropping off items for a cabin. but it looked like his nets were being drug. lots of birds behind him also, but that could have just been from his props kicking up mud.

hard to say for certain, but I thought it was weird. I don't think I've ever seen one back there working before.

We went past him headed north yesterday morning early. I thought it was dark green but it may have been blue. I was curious as well....

I saw the same guy. He was shrimping. I used to see 2 or 3 of them at a time back in the day. I would get live bait from them back then... Adios
