Hey guys, I usually fish the surf in the Galveston area for small sharks and bull reds. I am planning a trip to Corpus over the 4/July weekend. It would be my first time there. Where is a good beach where I can park near the water? Are there any free ones? I have a 4x4 truck so I can drive on softer sand if I can get away from the crowd.

Also, the family is coming with me. Do you guys have any recommendations for restaurants?

Thanks in advance!

no free ones that I can think of, but for corpus christi city area beaches, you need a beach parking permit that's about $10, that's good for a year.

you can go down to padre island national seashore that is about 25 or 30 for an annual pass, or around $10 per day. miles and miles of beach that you can park next to the water. all of padre island national seashore, the beach area north and south of packery channel, the area south of bob hall pier. There's actually very little beach here that you can't park next to the water.

snoopy's has decent food, and an ice cream place next door named scoopys. the food isn't 4 star food, but you can sit outside next to the water on the patio.

we have a lot of taco stands here.... Very Happy

Beach Lodge in Port A is a neat little dive right on the surf...
burgers and shrimp baskets...
not fancy but a nice porch to have beer-joint type food while watching the surf...
there's also several up-scale places in port a like Virginia's, trout street, marcell's and venitain...
all these are on the Island across from CC

On the FAQ section, Tyler has a sticky with the map you are looking for.

There are a few spots that are free, but most of the area requires a fee. But at ~$10, that's a bargain compared to the $150 ticket for not having one. Most Circle K stores that are on SPID carry them, and you can even buy one at a couple of the beach entrances, like Zahn Road (Packery Jetty area) or Whitecap. Plus there is normally a Parking Sticker truck driving around during busy holidays that will sell you one right on the beach!

Good luck on your trip down.

First and foremost, are you really a former matador? If so, I truly envy your masculinity.

Secondly, my vote is for PINS.

I'm personally partial to Laguna Reef, but the reborn Black Diamond Oyster Bar is not a bad back-up plan.

With kids in tow, Snoopy's is not a bad option, and the sliders at Mikel Mays on Bob Hall Pier are pretty good (too bad they changed their menu and went away from sushi). Crying or Very sad

If you have very deep pockets, the food at Dragonfly is a whole different level, and The Angry Marlin has gone from "ehhhh" to "I like it" since they opened (the braised beef is spot-on 'fill your gut'!!)

An often overlooked place that is a good bargain is Island Italian. Some of the best Eggplant Parmesan to be found in South Texas.

Best part about Island Italian is it's a "setup" place.

You can take your own bottle of wine for a small cork fee! And yea, the live music is great! One of our "date night" places - me and the Wife-Unit! Cool

PINS is good. Just before the entrance is north beach, That one is a free section. My wife and I both like Docs. Its on the island side of the intercoastal.

It looks like PINS it is. I did some research and found out about the release of baby sea turtles. The family will love that! I hope they release some this weekend. I'm psyched!

I'll take my kayak and will drop some baits just BTB. I may even do some BTB kayaking if the surf is calm enough. I'll post my results next week.
