As luck would have it, my wife Rachel and I were able to attend the Mariner Sails Demo Days in Dallas this weekend. We pulled into the parking lot and the first thing we saw was a truck and trailer full of brand new G2 Raptors with the owner of Santa Cruz, Jim Martin standing there. I already have a first generation Raptor and my wife wants her own, so we introduced ourselves and drooled over all the new kayaks for a bit. Jim asked how big I was, he wanted to see how the new G2 handled someone my size, so I happily obliged. The Mirage Drive was not available at the demo, so nothing to report there. The G2 seemed a bit faster, tracked a bit better, and was even more stable, if you can believe it. I am 6'3", 250 lbs, don't have the best balance and have never tried to stand up in any kayak before, but did so pretty easily in the G2 without any stand up bar/strap. There are a lot of other tweaks that really improve upon the already great design of the Raptor. In short, I think Jim has hit a real home run with this new design. Thanks to Jim and Christian for being so nice to me and Rachel and putting up with all my novice questions.

Isn't it great when you get that kind of personal attention! Can tell they have won over a loyal customer.

I'm glad you had a good experience with it! Jim is a good guy and is always willing to stop and talk when folks have questions.

That is for sure. Of course it was Demo Days, but the rep gave me his email and offered to help me out and show me some tips if we are ever at PINS the same time.
