just a tip, when you don't hear any reports from Packery Channel at this time of year, there's a reason for that....

| There was red tide coming thru there on an outgoing tide on Sunday. Lots of dead menhaden going out into the gulf, and washing up on the beach late afternoon. |

Was gigging around packery channel tonight. No sign at all of red tide. Was close to the bridge and only saw one dead mullet. Lots of bait in the water and even a few flounder _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

Have not seen red tide now for almost three weeks. No mullet in surf Monday or Tuesday. Reds were caught today in Packary Channel, so they are headed out !
Best bet is to go find a nice freshwater lake ! _________________ I wouldn't take Tuesday off if you will show me a fish that bites on weekends! |

There are no fish at the Packery Jetties - ever! There are only Game Wardens, zombies, and Game Warden zombies. |

| there were some more dead fish coming through and ended up in boat hole in the last couple days. There were several patches of red tide out in CC bay yesterday, and quite a few dead sand trout floating around. lots of dead fish slicks out there in the bay also, but I didn't check them out. |

I've been out there several times in the last two weeks. Still lots of dead fish near the boat ramp. The water in the channel has been off colored. Haven't seen any mullet. Aerosols are still present although there hasn't been many fresh dead fish washing in. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

We need water temps to drop a bit to really set off the mullet migration. As for postponing your trip.....there's just no way to know how long this stuff will stick around. With the SE winds coming back up I wouldn't be surprised if we get revisited by the red tide. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

You are spot on. The latest update has this in it:
On 10/5/15, water samples along Padre Island National Seashore cell counts were high at mile markers 15, 30 and 45.
It had been getting better down south, but me thinks that this is a reprise. Plus, the bay is loaded with cells, and the falling tide will sweep it back into the nearshore Gulf.
[I award myself 27.35 Super Secret Bonus Points for using reprise in a sentence] |
