Hey all, went out this past weekend and did a little fishing despite the red tide. I drove the beach between South Pack and BH on Thursday and did not see any dead fish. I did not go back on Sunday, numerous friends did say that it was filling up.
Saturday around mid day dead fish really started piling up in the channel from Billings to Packery. I was cruising passed the waste water station on the island side near the canal, I saw numerous dead fish, but i also saw some baitfish and a couple of drum and numerous mullet swimming in the canal, so I believe it's the dead fish coming in from off shore, not the bloom reaching the ULM, however, i'm no scientist. This is only my observation.
We went gigging on Thursday night and had a 3 man limit by 11pm. The tide was rising quickly and the last few fish were tough to come by.
Saturday Waypoint knocked my boat out and I made the first maiden voyage. We took out about 11am out of 37 and being there was no bait, we grabbed a few dead shrimp and headed to one of my favorite spots in CC bay. No trout whatsoever, but we managed to land 3 decent sized triple tail. No complaints here at all, one of my favorite fish to eat. We fished for about 2 hours there, and headed to Shamrock. We drifted and managed a nice 23" trout, as well as a couple undersize reds. Everything was caught on either freelined dead shrimp or dead shrimp under corks.
There was zero sign of red tide in CC bay, Aransas Pass, or around Shamrock.
I did not head south last weekend, but I may do so this following week. We shall see.
Link to pics. Havent posted a new one of my boat yet, but will soon.

Nice job! I like the arrangement of the flounder pic too! Oh and unfortunately I learned about Truffle Fries in San Diego this spring. That pic was nice too! Great to see that tripletail. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Tyler, it makes all other fries second place!
I was pretty amazed the triple tail fed on dead shrimp also. I thought they were an alive bait only fish. But oh my they are delicious to eat.
I was fishing there the other weekend and watched a gentleman pull the CC body of water record triple tail out of there. You truly never know what you may catch there.
My goal this coming weekend is to find the mangroves. |
