Hopefully they will use the back up dates if it's not gone by then.....
I highly doubt it will be completely gone by sharkathon

This isn't looking good

I thought it was only cancelled due to PINS closing their gates. if you've fished it before, you know it's never an easy fishing weekend. Just one more thing to weed out some more contestants and give better chances to those who stick it out. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah one of the very first rules is that the tournament will only be moved to the back up dates if the park is closed. If it isn't gone in the next two weeks it will certainly be a crappy weekend, but hey, when are the conditions not terrible, Hahaha. We'll be there regardless.

I have to agree with the comment about the crappy, I mean, challenging weekends.

I was almost glad I had hernia surgery last year and had to miss the fun! Razz

I was actually surprised that it wasn't closed last year. Probably should have been. But that's where good stories come from!

One that sticks out in my mind was after a storm. We were driving around piles of debris, decks, telephone poles, computer monitors, etc. that had washed ashore. For some reason I seem to recall a toilet in the mix. Anyway, I don't remember what year that was, but on top of all that it got cold too. Something floating out there, like a big ask pallet or something grabbed our lines and trashed them, ripping them up. It was a great trip.

Haha, Last year I felt like Lieutenant Dan on top of the fishing rack when that storm hit. Camps hugged up by the dunes. intense.

I still need a shark spot for sharkathon if anyone knows of one.

Don't get me started on Sharkathon last year. The organizers generally do a good job on the conservation front, but the damage to the dunes and dune grass last year was a travesty. Combined with all of the camps (forget just "trash") left behind, Sharkathon went down several rungs in my book. This year is set up for more of the same-- the only way to avoid the piles of dead fish and tire carnage is....you guessed it, to drive up by the dunes. Even if they use the backup dates, that's not going to change. Evil or Very Mad

You mean the high road? As for the trash....don't blame the folks that actually left it. Blame the organizers instead. By the way, the event organizers were on the beach the Monday after picking up trash.

To me it looks like more people than not are good stewards if you consider the dumpsters at the sticks and how full they are on Sunday. As far as driving on the high road, I have witnessed a few zeros hitting it like it's there own private 4X4 track even when the low road is available. Those will act like that regardless of when and where. But most people take it slow, remove their trash and respect the resource. I know we do.

Ditto but there's always a couple idiots that give everyone a bad name. Also I can vouch for the Sharkathon staff doing as much as humanly possible the monday after to leave the beach in as pristine condition as possible. the organizers definitely get the thumbs up from me

I talked to Bruce Laser this morning and he is confident that the sharkathon will happen. I was checking in with him to see if they have popped my hull outa the mould yet. I hope everyone has a great sharkathon weekend I think i'm going to stay home and fry some fish up for some friends that are coming in early for our 40th Harlingen Cardinals high school reunion coming up on the 9th down at South Padre. Very Happy
