Had a buddy get his 05 Dodge pickup broken into at shamrock, they stuck a screwdriver in the key hole. He had a viper alarm, doesnt know if that made them leave early. Weird thing is they stole all the paperwork in the glovebox. Insurance, truck info. Anyone know why they would only steal that? He said CD case was still laying on the floor. Wierd.

IDENTITY THEFT! There's more $$$$ in it than in pawning cd's or stereos.

Working in the financial idunstry, we are trained on this very thoroughly.

People leave all kinds of information vulnerable in their cars everyday. Credit card numbers on receipts, bank account numbers on statements or deposit receipts from the drive through tellers, addresses, phone numbers, your driver's license number on insurance cards, and even social security number if the theifs know what to look for on medical receipts, and certain lender account numbers.

You buddy needs to imediately contact the police and all the credit bureaus to alert he may be an identity theft victims, along with any company who's documents the theif may taken - ie car insurance, all credit cards with receipts tossed in the truck, his truck loan bank, etc. It would be a good idea to notify all his creditors just in case, and ask for new account numbers, and notify them he may be a possible identity theft target.

for most people, everything about them is in their car, somewhere.

Apparently you are not the only one as Bluffer posted a break in at the same spot. I say the same thing here - you have to hope that karma will take its place here and they will get what's comin to em.

Vehicles are always getting broke into there. Evil or Very Mad Thats in the Corpus Christi City limits but the police wont patrol the area and when you call them you will find out they are out to lunch.

think about this ,this is just a web site, and we hear about a auto break in every now and then. what about the ones we dont hear about.it seems the those crafty little bastages are targeting anglers more often. who else leaves their vehicals unattended for hours at a time?many times we are miles away from our vehicals or waist deep in water and unable to make it back quickly, and the thieves know this. so what do we do? my first guess would be not to leave anything in view in your auto not even a candy bar,or less a pack of smokes. burgular alarms are a great comfort but most are quickly silenced by the bad guys, my daughter had the expensive one heck they just took the whole car.besides when your truck is in the middle of nowhere its like a tree falling in the forest.( who hears it )? we got some pretty smart folks on this forum i would think we could come up with some ideas that might be helpful for each other. ideas besides gernades, landmines, and bazookas.ims

My step father had a great idea. Hook up a wire exposed on the driver's seat to the engines coil. If the thief jumps in and tries to start the car, wham, he's in for a shock!

Another idea I had was wire in a high intensity heating coil inside a metal steering wheel, that is connect via a switch through the "ON" breakers. When you drive around, make sure the switch is off, no heat.

When the car is parked, flip it to on. Thief hops in, hotwires the car. The heating coil is "ON" and the theif will only get as far as he can drive in a few seconds before he can't hold the wheel anymore! And the severely burnt hands will be proof positive he was the culprit!

For the theif who just wants your stuff, I have toyed with the idea of buying those exploding dye packs the banks use, and placing them in the glove box and console, and on the back end of your stereo, but I would probably forget to disable the device and paint myself florescent pink or yellow.

If you really want to see something done about it, organize a local crime watch chapter specifically for fishing areas. Get some volunteers to spend some time patrolling the most likely spots. Buy some magnetic signs and be visible.

They will stop coming around....

just an idea

Good idea. Most of us go fishing in groups, take turns on patrol.

I wonder if a small video recording device (put in one of the air vents say) would at least help ID the scum bags. or you could rig a smoke bomb (the kind the military use) to go off when one door is opened also (so you can use the other door upon return). They might think the truck caught on fire and flee the scene. and you will see it out in the bay. just thinking out loud.

are we allowed to shot someone breaking into our vehicals in Texas? I recall Florida recently passing somekind of law like that. sure is BS we can not protect our private property like in the old days. then you could simple take an old rifle with scope with you on the bay and take the scum out at a few hundred yards no problem. even if waiste deep in water.
