Was told by a friend who had recently been in the area that a portion of the bank along Packery Channel behind the bridge had been cordoned off and has "No Trespassing" signs posted. Does anyone know if this is accurate or have the full story behind it?
Thanks!

I'm interested in this as well, since I'm heading there thursday and will be staying near that area. And to jump in on your thread with my question...

I'll be heading down in my Ford Focus Station wagon (front wheel drive) and was wondering what the driving conditions are like near packers, north and south. Is there access to either or both sides that a FWD car can handle?

Must be new, just a week ago there were trucks all over the place there.
It is private property though.

The area of which you speak is private property. My understanding is property owners allowed people in there; however, the trash accumulation became so bad, they ceased allowing access. Signs were posted not to trespass, law enforcement enforced it for a short period, and apparently people are using area once again.

I would not enter the area as it is private property and "No Trespassing" signs are or were there. This is the southwest corner of the bridge. All other areas are open to public.

Beach has been packed and a FWD car should do fine; just be careful right up against the jetties. Also, keep in mind we are in a hot, dry spell, and it does not take long for sand to become loose and like powder.

If you are talking about the small bridge near the bait stores ... There is some water pipe work going on there but all that is on the side of the bridge nearest the houses on the canals ... south side?
I would expect once they get the pipeline buried that access will be allowed again. Would not expect that for a few months as it looks like a big project.

The area facing Packery channel on the north side of SPID/Park Rd 22 that is between the ICW bridge and the Best Western Hotel is private property...and soon to be developed into another hotel, shopping center/restaurant... which is why the city is getting ready to put in a new stop light where Aquarius intersects SPID there by the filling station right after you come across the bridge.

The southwest corner of the Packery channel bridge is also private property and has been trashed so badly by some fishermen that the property owners are attempting to enforce the no trespassing law there.

Was leaving Mustang Sunday and looked down there and was like... "my gawd " way to many people crammed in that little area. Couldn't believe it. And the trash, yikes !i don't blame the owners for closing it off.

I should have been a bit more specific but I assume my friend was referring to the area behind the 361 bridge over Packery Channel (SW corner).
Sucks that the area has been posted. It was nice that the owner was letting people fish from there, but folks carelessly trashing the area is definitely a deal breaker. Plus, it's a good way to leave yourself open to a lawsuit should anyone hurt themselves.

My thanks to those who responded.

Seems when private property owners get thier fill they have a right to shut down what they allowed people to do on their property. I used to live in Maryland and trout stream fished a lot in Baltimore county. Many areas were private property. I used to carry a large plastic bag with me to pick up crap fisherman left behind but couldn't keep up. Many places had No Tresspassing signs up soon after.I managed to still be able to fish some of the areas because of talking with the property owner and offing some of my catch to them in return. Cleaned of course.

I noticed the same problem here in Corpus fishing anywhere. See it first hand when a family would show up eat and drink stuff throw it on the ground and leave it when packing up to go.

no surprise .. cant blame the owners...
but I'm proud to say the only thing I ever left at a fishing spot is a few wads of used snuff and a couple of pale yella divots..hydration and all... Laughing
