Hey guys..haven't been around much, or fishing much.

Earlier this year I got a very severe case of the flu...like the kind that killed people in the 1800's...I was a 6'4" 320 pound weight lifter that looked like a defensive end...I lost 21 pounds in 4 days...then got an upper respiratory infection that turned into pneumonia...and culminated with a blood clot (deep vein thrombosis) in my left calf.

Due to those illnesses...my kidney function of my so,it are kidney has taken a big hit. Long story short, I have to have a biopsy on my one good kidney, and the blood thinners im on greatly increase risk of a bad outcome...and if I,do nothing...I end up on dialysis in 12-18 months.

I missed every day to fish this spring, and with the blood clot in my leg...going down PINS so,I isn't going to happen...let alone going at all.

I am scheduled for a second opinion with a kidney doctor here in corpus, and am pretty much planning on having a filter put in a main artery for the clot so I can stop taking blood thinners long enough for the biopsy and recovery to take place. Will probably do all of this in August/September.

My point...enjoy every day you get on the water...especially those with friends and loved ones.

At this pint, I have zero idea if ill get back on the water again...the vibrio and other things would, quite literally, kill me.

Your fishing pictures and reports are a huge morale booster...it motivates me to be positive because I want to get back to this...I live for getting a line out to that third bar...hearing the clicker take off, and fighting a jack or shark or bull red....and seeing others do this is uplifting.

Keep fishing guys. Keep fishing.

Bighead, get well SOON. The fish will be there, you take care of yourself.

BUT, if you could have picked any time to be 'out of action', this would be the perfect time. This cold-water upwelling is wrecking havoc with the surf, and it even makes it's way into the Lagoon (went scouting for crabs and found SQUAT today - except for the one mega flounder that was shooed along his way this morning). Hope you'll be able to get back on the water you love soon. I'll have to catch a fish or two in your honor.

so sorry to hear that you have been so ill. i will put you in my prayers for better heath. i wonder if you could do pier fishing. that will limit some of your exposure to the saltwater. i have asthma and another illness that can be compromised. what if you wear gloves that may help in so far as unhooking the fish.i hate to see you having to give up fishing. praying for you
