What, if any, license is required to be a fishing guide?

Can anyone with a boat print up some business cards and call themselves a guide for hire?

That is the perfect response.
If it did work that way then it would be safe to "assume"
since I got a new multi-meter from harborfrieght I just need to call vistaprint and tomorrow I'm an electrician. Oh and when you call I'll be significantly cheaper just to get the job.
Trolling on.

More importantly, does one need a license just to operate their own boat? I know there are boater safety classes out there, but are you required to have a boating license if you own a boat and fish recreationally? I've looked up the regulations, but it just says that if you're over 13 (birthday after 1990 something...) you "can" take the class. It doesn't say necessarily say that you "must".

Two things you don't need a license for...to run your boat and to have kids.
