| Managed a few nice trout to 20" off of the ship channel in the Redfish Bay area fishing late afternoon to evening. Wind played some weird tricks going from a slight breeze to almost nothing, pickin up again at almost sunset. Bait in the water had turtles, trout, reds, and at least one sighted shark joining in the fun. Without the wind, I was able to just pretty much stay in position and work the edges of the bait, which also stayed in the same position. Bite was a slow pull most of the time and seemed almost lazy. All fish were caught under cork with 30 inch 20 lb. flouro leader and no. 2 mustad treble. A few head shakers were in the mix along with dinks and a couple of 18" reds. One fish I saw come out of the water chasing bait was a beauty and looked to be a 30 class speck but may not have been. I saw spots, a big body like a trout sporting a broad trout looking tail. Anyway, it was a cool experience to see that many different species enjoying dinner together in a little spot that measured no more than 20 yards or so in circumference. |
