Two decades ago... Very Happy

"Besides Sheka's 30-plus monster, we picked up four trout over 25 inches in just over half a day's fishing. Sheka had a second monster just up to him but couldn't get a grip on the trout. 'It was hung on the last hook right in the corner of the mouth, and I knew I'd never get it,' he said.

All the trout were caught on floating-diving lures. 'That's how we catch those fish,' Sheka said."

I'm cleaning up the house today and found this newspaper clipping. Published in print before there were effective search engines on the infant world wide web. Thought I'd share it before it goes into the recycling.

Bill certainly knows big trout. Would never second guess him.

I've been fortunate to go out with him 3 times over the last few years. His stories and knowledge on Baffin, And the Laguna are 2nd to none. He definitely will put you on fish.

I recently met Bill Sheka at a local gathering, and in addition to being an accomplished trout wrangler, he is a committed conservationist of our saltwater resource. However, Bill's health is failing, due to the effect of Agent Orange during his military service. My hat is off to him, and hope he gets some relief from his ills.

Sorry to hear about Bill's health. He is a Hall of Famer.

Thanks, Bayfly, for the update.

Your correct on the health thing. He's been ill for some time now. Don't really think he's guiding much if at all right now. I still remember seeing him on Fishing Texas as a kid a couple times . I believe the host was Keith and Allen Warren. Hall of Famer fosho.

I've known Bill for 25 years, he is a born again Christian and extremely devout in his faith. He was never shy about bringing others to faith. it is a shame his health is failing but I am sure he will lean on his faith to get him through. Without doubt the greatest big trout guide ever in this area, and there have been many so that is saying a lot.
