| you should be able to log into the CCA website, and they will show the GPS tracking tags with realtime updates of where all the fish are. |

Wannafish.. you didn't really believe that, did you?
I saw this response from Everett Johnson on the 2Coolfishing forum earlier today.
"I assume you are referring to the redfish that are tagged and released for the CCA Texas STAR Tournament.
If so, I have participated in prior year's collection, tagging and release efforts. Of course the volunteers who participate in this activity are ineligible to compete in STAR. It goes like this:
STAR Tournament organizes teams of volunteers go fishing in local waters for the reds to be tagged and released! This is not say that none originate from Sea Center, I have no knowledge of that. The "perfect size" red for STAR tournament tagging is 22- to 25 inches length and must be healthy specimens to insure successful release. The reason behind the size range is to insure the fish do not grow beyond the maximum slot length of 28 inches during the tournament that runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The fish are released on a quantity schedule per region of the Texas coast to insure that all STAR entrants have equal chance to catch one. When I participated in the release, we placed three fish from the boat, within a half mile of the shoreline, in Espiritu Santo/San Antonio Bay. Interestingly one of the reds we released was caught from a pier on the ICW during the first days of the tournament near Port O'Connor, several miles from the release site.
To the best of my knowledge this is how STAR capture, tagging and release is conducted all along the coast." |
