Hey yall! It been pretty cold out lately if you havent noticed. I made a only 2 trips out these past 2 weeks, but they have been great!

I made one huge mistake of forgetting my token and SD card for the TKF trout tournament.

I decided to hit some old grounds before the first big front of the season kicked in.

I got a late start around 11AM with the front coming in around noon. South winds were howling still so I made my drift with the intent of the north winds to push me back.

The bite was pretty dead in 3' so I anchored up about 15 yards parallel to a shallow sandbar that drops to a 1' of water. This water was holding tall grass in patches. 2nd cast I pitched a swimbait into a sand alley between the grass and felt that *THUMP*. At first I thouhgt it was a flounder until the fish moved over the shallow sand and I could make out the shape. I set the hook and she came up shaking with bits of fish and roe going all over.

She was FAT FAT FAT! Full of bait fish! I was kicking myself for forgetting my token. This would have been a good fish for the tournament. Either way I was stoked that a short trip produced. I managed one more trout the same size but a little smaller.

I released both of them to hopefully catch again with my token in hand!

The winds died down at noon and the bite came to a stop as the front started coming through.

The front blasted and water temps dropped big time. I had plans to fish packery park on saturday. I knew the fish would be there but other plans kept me busy in the morning. I hurried to finish up when my buddy oscar calls with a plan. He had this new spot that he wanted to try out for the cold weather.

Now I dont usually blur out my pictures but this is not my fishing spot. Out of respect for my buddy I decided to blur out any kind of structure and background. There is no close launch to get to this place and all surrounding area is private property. I know a lot of yall are good people but there are thousands who surf the site and read reports. There will always be that one person who tries to potlick even though it means trespassing. We were there all of 30 minutes before a officer showed up to question us on how we were able to reach this place. Ill give info on conditions and how we fished so use those and apply it to your next trip. That should be plenty.

We hit the water a little late in the morning and it was COLD and WINDY! After lots of complaining about the weather we finally found managed to get the kayaks ready for launch.

This was the very first cast of the trip and pretty much every cast after.

It didnt take very long for me to get a limit of redfish. The skipjacks were terrible but the water was about 9' deep so if you could get the lure down past them you would come up with a red or nice trout.

Eventually the bite slows so I move over to another area that looks promising. Every cast was a trout. I ran out of 3 packs of swimbaits it was such a crazy bite. Eventually I pick up something heavy and to my surprise it was a nice flounder.

That big bait in its mouth is not part of my flappin devil. Every flounder I pulled up had a BIG bait in its mouth! I took it as a sign and tied on a 5" vudu mullet. Water was clear so I used a natural grey mullet color. My very first cast produced a new personal best 23" flounder! During the fight she threw up a big mangrove snapper and still had a mullet in the mouth.

Finally I have done something I've always wanted to do. Catch a limit of Red, Trout, and Flounder all in one trip all on artificials. The day definitely didnt stop there. Out of 5 casts with the vudu mullet I managed 3 flounder, one bull red, and lost what would have been the biggest trout of the trip.

The winds were high, it rained all morning, and it was COLD! If you told me this would be one of the best trips I've ever had then I would probably just laugh. I finished the day with 5 reds ( 2 bulls), well over 30 slot trout, and 4 nice flounder all 19+. Oscar had himself a nice limit of trout and flounder as well. We had one left off the stringer in case someone hit that magical trophy trout.

I couldn't have asked for a better day of fishing. It was with great company too. Ill be at home until this weather evens out of bit. Then I'm hitting the water to try and top it.

Till Next Time
Life is good!

- Tino

I'm pretty sure I fished that spot the last time I got drunk on tequila down there, but all I can remember about it are the colored squiggles and pretty lights. Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Hey Tino, I think I recall your fishing spot too! I used to fish there all the time as a kid.

Yep. Drinkin tequila is a hell of a lot more fun than drawing squiggle lines. Besides - you drink enough tequila and you get to see the squiggle lines without havin to draw em!!
