I want to try spear fishing around the jetties and Rigs with a actual gun, not a sling. Does anyone have some advise on brand or size or anything else I might need to know? Also, where is a good place to buy a good quality gun? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't go to the jetties right now. Too many poles and people throwing out lead weights. Its always overcrowded this time of year.

Snorkling around my lines upsets me also but I have a couple productive spots that no one fishes for some reason. For the most part, the areas I want to spearfish have zero lines in the water

Go to Ascuba Venture on SPID next door to Rudy's BBQ. They have a whole line of spear guns and folks to help you get the right one. Nice people there.

I like to get to the jetties early enough that there aren't too many people. I've always had my best luck around that time. But you are always going to make someone mad no matter how early you get there. I usually offer a fish or two to the people who had to tolerate me most. Ascuba venture has some good guns. But only a few brands. And it's all preference when buying a gun.
