Headed to Cost Rica in a week and a half and have one day free that I want to try and book a fishing trip. Don't really have any specific fish I want to target but what I was looking up on line several trip were priced at 350-550. And it reads per trip not per person. Seems awful cheap. Only one that was along the price I was expecting looked to be a high end marlin or sailfish trip for 1500

Anyone been? Any recommendations?

Quepos is world class sailfishing. Don't hesitate to ask the captain if you can target wahoo or roosterfish too if the sails don't cooperate.

I've fished with John on Quepos Fish Adventures.
Awesome time, and great place to visit.
Highly recommend John.
I paid about 800 a day and caught Roosterfish and sailfish.

I also fished out of Quepos, totally different area. We haven't been to Guanacanaste region yet. Tripadvisor.com may be helpful if you don't get anything here, good reviews on all your travel needs.

I don't believe the fishing is that good in Guanacaste.
Completely different weather up there, even though it's not that far technically.
Up North is drier (almost desert) and hotter and from Los Suenos area down further South is a little cooler but a LOT more humid (rain forest).
Also was told by John when I was down last year that September is their windiest month and not the best time to fish the Quepos area at least.

We love Manuel Antonio area just south of Quepos.

CroakerSoaker,
I travel to Costa Rica at least once a year and have been many times. I have several captains that I can recommend and some that I won't.
Guanacaste is a province of Costa Rica in the northwestern area of the country. Different locations in the province provide different opportunities...Golfo Nicoya, Golfo Papagayo, Pacific Ocean, etc.
If you could be a little more precise on where you will be when you have your free day, I may be able to help you.
You can PM me if you would like.
Might I also suggest, stay inshore and chase Roosterfish. They do not exist in the Gulf of Mexico but just about every other central Pacific pelagic species does. Land a Rooster while the opportunity presents itself even if you have to spend all day doing it.

I think I found a pretty good option for a fishing trip, hope to be able to post some pics in a couple weeks.
