Went fishing today from 1 to about 4. Using mullet for bait hoping for some redfish. Lots of Spanish mackrel and some bluefish. There was a lot of little shad like bait in the water. Used it and caught more Spanish mackrel. Are they good to eat? I let them go. Water was pretty but rough.

Spanish Macks are pretty good to eat in my opinion, not as mild as trought but still good if you like fish. My wife isn't a big fan of fish but she liked it.

Were you fishing on the jetties or on the beach? I am surprised you didn't get any red's out there...

Nope, absolutely terrible. Please put them on dry ice and send them up to Austin for me so I can properly dispose of them for you! Very Happy

Spanish mackeral are very good grilled....
make good fish tacos, too.
and the limit is generous.
one of my best fishing memories was back before Nixon was elected ( Laughing )
my family and our neighbors rented a couple cabins at Rock Cottages in Port A...
neighbors had a tri-hull I/O and we fished between the jetties one day... dragging Hooties, we filled the boat... one or two even jumped in...
Very Happy
it was a blast! we must have gotten into a big school, because it was crazy action...
fish hooked up... fish coming over the side... fish jumping, laughs, yelling.. some cussing... Laughing
that was a great fishing trip and my neighbors and I still talk about it...
sadly, some are not here anymore, but the memory will last.
