Good afternoon everyone. My Pops runs a 2005 Bluewave 22ft with a 2004 yamaha V-max 150. I talked to him today and he said the temperature alarm came on when he tried starting it up right away. Nothing seems to be clogged with debris. He just had impeller replaced last season. Water seems to be pissing strong. Would anyone have any ideas what could be sounding the alarm off? Just wondering if it's something he and I can do ourselves before we break the piggy bank at a mechanic shop. Thanks for any info.

Is there a lot of water coming out of exhaust? Might be a bad thermostat.

Crank it up, drive a lil way from the launch. Then put it in reverse and give some hard throttle, then engage it forward and do the same. We used to have the same issue with our 06 Yamaha 200hp. It's seaweed that is stuck in the intake grate. Once u kick it all out, your good as new !!!

If the alarm is going off the second the motor starts up it's likely not an overheating issue. I've read that weeds inside will confuse the sensor and set the alarm. Sounds like rippinglips idea would work. Can also try removing the hose to the pisser and let the water flow more freely.

Thanks all!! Appreciate the info. Will run over to master marine and see if we can order a new thermostat or a thermo sensor. Are they the same thing? We also removed the intake grates and did not see any seaweed stuck up in there. ???? Just have to see on Monday we guess. Thanks again y'all.

This happened to me today i ran over a mat of weed and a little ways away my alarm sounded. I just changed the water pump kit on Monday so I knew it couldn't be that. once I gassed it real hard all was good.

I recently acquired a used Bluewave 220 Classic with a 150 Vmax. After taking it out for a test run, My alarm went off minutes after leaving the boat launch. After replacing the poppet valve with the new design and new thermostats, nothing helped. The water pump was a solid 5lbs at idle and 15-17 at 5000 rpms. My boat mechanic (who is awesome) suggested a couple of things: Check the oil reserve on the motor to make sure it wasn't running low. Next, when the alarm went off and while at idle unplug the thermostat sensor on either side of the motor, (each bank has their own sensor) to determine which bank is over heating. (The alarm turned off on the side that was overheating when unplugged ) On mine, the starboard side was the culprit. My mechanic then removed the water jacket and found it was almost entirely clogged. He cleaned it and the motor run like a SOB. Since then I've removed and cleaned the port side as a precaution. Turned out the previous owner never flushed the motor after years of runs on the coast.

Yes, it doesn't matter if alarm is on or not , but obviously it will be on if this is your issue. Just do as I discussed and save yourself about $1500 and a month away from your boat while it sits in the shop. I run Yamaha on all of our trout & redfish boats and The good ole reliable Johnson outboard on my flounder boat.

Believe me when I tell you that my lil secret about reverse/forward throttle WORKS LIKE A CHAMP !!!
