After seeing motors flying off it made me wonder about getting boat insurance. Any suggestions?

I went with Charter Lakes (281) 452-7800. They had really good reviews when I was doing my research.

Star advantage insurance agency. It's on the island right next to black sheep bistro. They are a progressive insurance provider

My Agent wrote ours with Progressive. Just a small boat, 2012 Mako Pro Skiff 16w/40 Merc and Aluminum trailer. $127.00 a year, I thought it was very reasonable. Although the larger outboards are worth way more than my whole rig. .........cC

Mine is with USAA.

Check with your current providers. Some have discounts that go up with each new policy.

I use Progressive, I think USAA contracts with them. $129 a year for a full policy to include contents.
They have that disappearing deductible thing too.

Tyler, a lot of us are switching from Progressive to Charter Lakes. They were about half the cost and cover commercial as well as recreational. Call Rebecca
877-421-0619,tell her I sent you.

Say hi to jay if you see him

Definitely go with Charter Lakes or any insurance company other than progressive. I would never ever buy any insurance from Progressive. I would go uninsured first. Read up on Peter Lewis the Chairman of progressive and you will understand how progressive got its name and what the company name really stands for. Bad, Bad, Bad, Bad!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I've always had insurance on any boat, even the cheap one I'm running now. Charter Lakes seems to have the best coverage, but Progressive is way more convenient for getting the ball rolling and being done with it and I would presume claims as well. Progressive coverage is "pretty good" statistically and about the same price as the Charter Lakes quotes I've gotten. YMMV

edit: Yes Progressive is run by liberals, but so is half the other companies out there people deal with on a regular basis and don't know, for me it's about the product they provide to me.

I carry full coverage by State Farm but then everything I have is fully covered with the broadest policy I can get.....peace of mind.

Whichever company, read the policy well: A very good friend tore his spinnaker in half last winter and filed a claim with his insurance company. After being given the runaround for a few weeks on the phone, an adjuster finally met him out at the lake to take a look at the sail, which IS the engine of a sailboat.

After all of the BS and wasted time my buddy was told that his policy "didn't cover the sails"!!! Say what? On a 30' boat the sails are a huge expense! The jerk adjuster could have been up front and told my bud all of that on the phone and been done with it.

The company: PROGRESSIVE!!!! Evil or Very Mad Yes this is a sailboat, but I'm just warning y'all to go over the policy carefully and be sure of what you're getting BEFORE you put down the coin!
