Hey all,

Taking the family down this weekend and want to sneak away and fish early in the morning. We are staying on north beach and I was curious if anyone has fished the downtown jetties as of late. I believe it was mentioned that they catch mangroves over there. Live bait/dead shrimp. Any info would be appreciated. Usually fish south bird island but wanted to do a family trip. Thanks

I fished them 2 weeks ago, there were a few mangroves not tons but we mainly fished the wells out in CC Bay then hit those rocks for about an hour. We used live shrimp but i believe they'll hit dead just as well but that would bring hardheads into play. Ive done the best anchoring outside the rocks on the bay side infront of the Joe's Crabshack and casting back at the rocks, it is deeper on the bayside, the marina side kinda has a beach. Take more bait than you think bc it'll get stolen as there are a lot of perch in there now as well and use a small hook to increase your mangrove snapper hook-ups.

Someone posted her a couple of years ago that Mangrove's could be caught in Conn Brown Harbor at Aransas Pass. Not sure where in Conn Brown though. I've tried a few areas in Conn Brown and have not come up with any Mangroves yet.

If you have a castnet, Magroves LOVE small pinfish! Plus, you'll catch zero hardheads or other trash and the pinfish are way tough on the hook. Wink

The channels on the Nueces side of the highway from where you're staying should be loaded with Pinfish and other baits. You can chum them up with bread, then nail them with the casnet. Twisted Evil
