well ive been thinking about upgrading from my bluewave 189 classic T to something bigger. the only problem I have is not knowing what boat I want. I run Baffin bay( a lot of the south shoreline) but I would also like something that can go offshore on a nice day. Im really fond of the Illusion but hear that it doesn't do well with chop. to bad I cant afford the new X3 from shallow sport. any opinions?

well you looking for used or new? price range? blue wave is a nice boat and i wouldnt be opposed to the larger size ones. epic makes a pretty good dual purpose boat. with a dual purpose boat you do loose the ability to get shallow, you looking at 10" draft or so

Your budget is going to be huge in this decision, as in your new vs. used opinion.

22' min is my recommendation, v hull, no tunnel. Since just about everyone into bay boats makes ones in this class, brand preference is your next decision.

Give a look at the new Shallow Sport X3. Not cheap but it will meet your needs both inshore and offshore.

for now lets just say. used and under 30k might be willing do go higher but I think I can find a good used boat for about 25. I love the X3 but at a base price at about 68 before anything is added Confused

If the boat you buy is offshore capable there will be no need to run the south shoreline in Baffin, you can just go down the channel. But whatever you buy, just make sure it's at least 21' so you dont porpous through the Baffin Waves so bad. I like Tran Sport

Don't think you'll be running south shoreline and also running offshore. Try a 22'-24' skeeter, nautic star, triton, pathfinder, haynie and/or kenner and stay off the south shoreline.

Think that you would be surprised by the X3. It will run over the ICW sandbar and go offshore without a hitch. Been in it and done it. It is an amazing boat. You will dig deep in your pockets for it. Since it is new to the market it will be difficult to find a used one.

Choose an inshore boat that make you happy and preforms the way you want .....any boat will go offshore on a nice day.

Tunnel V's might be a good option for you. Plenty of manufactures out there for you to choose from.

Have you seen any dargel 25 kats for sale? A used first gen basic model might be around your budget dependent on options, outboard, hours, etc... Although, that might be pushing it.

Illusions will run very skinny and are awesome boats but can be a pretty rough ride. You basically gotta figure out what you value out of a boat more.

A client had a bigger (22'?) Blue Wave tunnel boat that he described as a "plow." He said it was so inefficient he couldn't get much more than 35mph with a 150 on it, even though it wasn't all that heavy. He went to a lightly used Majek and is a lot happier. Most people I know who have the hybrids seem to wish they had either gone to a true skinny water boat, or a true bay boat. I have no firsthand experience, but that's what I hear.

I have a Majek Xtreme 25'6" that is big, yet can handle about 2' of water going slow. I don't have trim tabs on it, so the back end plows down when trusting with the big and heavy Yamaha 300 HP. With trim tabs, I'm sure that it will get up and going in a jiffy. I have to save up for that. Although, those dang Illusions seem to glide on any skinny waters! But, they would have problems out in the Gulf and any good chops! I took it outside of Packery Channel about three weeks ago and it handled the big waves fine - although I was getting a little sea sick.

Good luck in finding your gem boat!

I was lucky to have found this used beauty that mostly saw fresh water rivers.
