I'm speaking of the large boats that take out 20-60 people to fish the channel, end of jetty. Also heard they go a few miles out if conditions are good. What are y'all's experience with these kind of trips?

They're used to be a smaller one that took like 20 people out of Dolphin Docks. I used to take it when I was boatless, it was like 40.00 for 4 hours and I never caught anything spectacular but would always come back with plenty of whiting, sandtrout, gaftops n such, enough to take to Castaways and do the cook your catch ! And you can bring your own beer ! It's fun just dont have high expectations and its worth bringing a bucket of live shrimp and not use their old stinky bait, you'll catch was less hardheads.

I think you may be referring to the Island Queen. Okay for first timers but lots of hardheads, whiting and gafftop. If you're expecting a deep sea experience that is not it but if you only want to get out on the water for a little while at a reasonable price that's not a bad option.

I've done that trip and it was fun, but like mentioned it was lots of hardheads and gafftop. However the conditions were good so they decided to head out a bit passed the end of the jetties and someone ended up catching 2 sharks about 6 feet long. It was a fun get away but definitely not the offshore experience.

If you go on the Island Queen go pump up some ghost shrimp and use those on a strong small hook. Fish near the rocks or seawall or whatever structure you are near. If you like watching tourists catch hardheads all day and then pose for photos with them, this is your trip. My dad and I went a couple months and we ended up with 1 legal sheepshead and a 14 inch whiting. The rest of the boat combined caught one whiting. Everything else was hardheads. We ended up catching more than two limits of sheepshead, but they were all about a half inch too short.
