| With fathers day coming up I want to surprise my Dad and brothers with asurprise fishing trip. I am considering two options and I wanted everyones opinion on what my best chances for fish would be. I have been down to PINS with the family before but only on the beachside for recreation. We did drive over to the bayside and just looked around and it looked nice. Fishing on the bayside seemed likes a good option. The other choice is to book a trip with Dolphin Docks and do a bay fishing trip. They told me the boat holds 15 people. That will be enough room since I have five people including myself. Are there any other options you all suggest? The bayside is nice because we coul bbq fish and enjoy the company. The chartered trip in the bay is nice because of the conveince factor. Looking for all options, even other chartered trips you all would suggest in the bay. |

I say the Bayside of PI would be a nice setting. Clean water, no sargasam to deal with. _________________

I'm betting with the rains the Skeeters are likely to be tough to handle back there. Only times (2) I've ever been back there the tide was so far out all I could hit was mud casting with my long distance rods. I may end up over there soon though and if so will give you a better report. _________________ JJ |

| I was there a couple weeks ago and the biting flies were bad. You definitely need 4wd(assuming you're referring to Yarborough pass). There was plenty of water right up to the picnic area but muddy and windy the day I was there. |

| Anyone ever do any surfishing by the large dead tree in the water. I'm speaking of the tree that's to the left of the wood pylon barrier when you start to drive down pins. |

Got back late Tuesday night. In short, the Y sucked. Skeeters were not bad though so at least we were comfortable. Water was dirty/nasty and still too dang shallow to get any real fishing done in the immediate area. Also worth noting is the mud in the pass stinks to high heavens so if you wade out be sure to walk out at the back end straight into the bay. If you angle North toward the grass flats it's ankle deep for a mile or more. It gets a little deeper if you angle left/South, but from what I could tell it's just straight sand bottom and devoid of fish. We ended up yakking many miles out to find some fish. On the way out the pass was blocked by a buried (and I mean buried I could see their rear bumper touching the sand) F150 with about 6 guys digging. Luckily I was able to yank them out so they could get on down the beach before it got too late. It was a good test for my new tires' first trip and they performed well, pretty sure I would have also been stuck or at least unable to pull them out with my old tires. _________________ JJ |
