Yak-a-holics,
Is there a better spot to launch aside from the dedicated one for Rattlesnake Point? It is a pretty good paddle around the Redfish Inn to take advantage of some of the hidden gems between Port Bay and RP.
To launch at the Port Bay spot seems to be a little risky...for my truck anyway. I am really weary of leaving my truck there while I am off playing "dunk the bait, here fishy fishy" (as my wife calls it).!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

put in at the ramp at Redfish Bay Lodge.....follow 188...pay to launch, but your truck will likely be fine..

I think some one already mentioned the 5$ launch at the 188 Bridge ramp next to the old motel. The old gentleman at the ramp will make sure your vehicle is not bothered. Across the bridge at the old gravel site on the right is a parking area where we have never had any problems leaving the vehicles. Bank fishermen there can also be asked to keep a lookout on our vehicle as most are local friendlies.
If you go to Texas Kayak Fisherman website and Google Cape Valero you might be able to find the thread on the discussion of the old road that parallels the undeveloped section at the end of Cape Valero directly across the channel from Rattlesnake Point/Redfish Lodge(which is for sale by the way). I run my skiff into the area all the time(Pete's Bend) and for about two years folks have been using that shoreline for bank fishing and kayak launching without any problems. True....it is part of Cape Valero and there are signs all over the rest of that area but this particular path which parallels the fence line on the water side of the undeveloped lots is not posted and has been in use(until someone trashes it or sets a fire maybe it will not be).
Have fun! _________________ Mike |
