I heard through the grapevine that there have been Lots and lots of drum being caught in the Backyard area with the old squarehook method. Maybe a around 2000 lbs and upward, it won't last long. However conditions are perfect not alot of dudes on the water and the weather is horribly perfect for stringing out a few miles of mono. Very Happy These guys are just not very good at being outlaws, the good outlaws moved on so they are not around to teach the young ones how it's done. You have to be either really tough, half crazy, or really hungry, or all 3 combined, to fish at night in this weather. Come on guys if you are going to play outlaw commercial fisheman do it right. GEEEZE

ha-ha, reminds me of good times past. I haven't heard the term "square hooks" since your fish fry. LOL

We never used the "square hook" method but we did run a lot of lines. lot's and lot's of lines.

I hooked one of those lines in the flats by Pita the other day. Trying to unhook my sand eel while drifting in 25 mph winds and an ugly flailing around, all while keeping an eye out for the owners of the line, was a pretty daunting task.

yeah, you would think they would deploy their square hooks at least a little outside "Dude" range.....unless they're trying to send a message....but probably not....just lazy outlaws....

Okay, this is something new to me. What is the "squarehook" method?

Oh, and you have not had the PERFECT day until you wrap one of these things around your lower unit and prop. I did just that in the Pure Oil channel a while back. Sad

Different type of lines, our lines were all strung above the water with the staging and hooks hanging just at or just below the surface. Easy to see with the exception of at night. We used Oleander leaves for bait.....worked good and was cheep. Very Happy

Today the lines are strung below the surface as a conventional trot line
and the commercial guys use wood for bait. Sometimes hard to see if your drifting and chunking plastic. I've caught a bunch of them Crying or Very sad

Nope, not cool at all! I am not sure who is the worst offender though, the guys doing the illegal netting or those that don't report it.

When you think someone is being judgmental, they may just be perceptive.

The local phone number is 289 5566 in case anyone needs to report illegal netting.

Thanks

I'm pretty busy but if you have the time you should go down to the Fishermans fishmarket and ask them to put that number up on their wall.

Sheeeeeit

I just paid $50 for 4 drum at the market on the t-heads last monday. I got myself in a pinch for a birthday dinner. Charlie was out and I sent my wife. She told me the price when she got home and I was a bit upset. Damn if I will throw some fish back. CPR - R to the ice chest. lol

Good pic Capt. Mike..... Very Happy The old guys used to bury their nets on the shorelines instead of hauling them around.
