Fishing partner told me this fish is a stargazer, this picture was taken before the fish was released. My partner told me that if you stroke them between the eyes it calms them down so you can take the hook out. DON'T DO IT! I was the one on my a** stargazing. Fishing partner was roaring in laughing.

Notice I refer to the person with me as, fishing partner, not buddy or friend. He got me but paybacks can be rough and you never know when.

Buddy of mine caught something similiar at the ship pass underneath the JFK Cosway. Toadfish I think it was, at least thats what I was told. Vicious little monsters, they'll snap at anything in front of their face even out of the water.

I bet it was a "SHOCKING" experience that you won't do again Shocked I caught one of these buggers last year and used the pliers to dehook it. Cool [/code]

A student on a marine biology field trip caught one in a sein. He was a knucklehead who kept breaking the safety rules so the other teacher wanted to teach him a lesson. He told the kid to pick it up and put it in the collecting can. The kid picked up the stargazer and fell flat on his butt when it shocked him. He didn't break the rules after that - he didn't even want to get in the water.

They won't kill you, but you'd sure think they could when you get popped. Laughing

Not sure which was more "shocking", shallowsport touching the fish or shallowsport actually catching a fish. Very Happy

Many Moons ago I did some deck hand work for Charlie J. He tried to get me to pet the fish, I laughed and told him, I might be green but you should have never said a word and I might have grabbed that fish and threw it off the boat.

But then, I never fell for Snipe hunting either...
