Didn't get on the water till noon but by 4:30 i had my limit of trout from 16 to 20 inches and a limit of reds from 20 1/2 to 25 inches 1 sheepie lots of skipjack plenty of dink trout and released five reds that were just under 20 inches . Been off the water for a while ( at least a week)so it sure felt good to get out there and catch some fish . Live shrimp under a rattle floatdid the trick.

I'd be interested to see how that turned out and how he prepared them. They are usually a bit mushy after they are on ice for a bit. _________________ Great captains, the stuff of legend, are made not by what they have caught, but by what they have given back. |

I've always to try em but when I cut em up all that blood, that keeps changing my mind. I think they are part of the tuna family? Let me know the recipe I'll try it out. |

| I've always heard that lady fish are hardly used for anything other than cutbait and only when fresh at that. Let us know how it tastes! |

My bet is that if they were pickled like pickled herring (yum) the bones would soften and be a non-problem. Canning them like canned mackerel or salmon would soften the bones too. _________________ Gary J

Ladyfish are actually more closely related to eels and tarpon. They taste pretty good, but they get mushy easily and they have tons of bones.
TFTR nice catch! |

According to Sport Fish of the Gulf of Mexico by Vic Dunaway, FOOD VALUE: Edible, but not very appetizing. The meat is soft and also very bony. _________________ HighTide

| I was able to try ladyfish about a month ago. It was made as a fish cake with pork and spices. It was actually very good. I would love to have the recipe. I also never thought it was worthy of food fare but cooked right it is great. |

A good cook could combine enough other ingredients to make a set of old sweaty gyms socks taste good!!!
I noticed the recipe had pork and spices..... A solid start to the "Gym Sock Cake" appetizer.....
But seriously, they are one of the oldest types of bony fish in the sea, just an evolutionary ladder-rung up from sturgeon, paddlefish, bowfins, and gar. Not exactly on the menu at ANY of the fine establishments that have been kicked around in one of the longest running posts here on CF.com.
Now, if you have ever taken a few ladyfish out of a gillnet after it's been poaching the the backbay overnight in 85+ degree water, you will understand my revulsion to the thought of having that fish pass these lips!!! Pork-fat infused or not! |

Not internet bait my Vietnamese friend and his wife really enjoy them. As for the recipe i'm dealing with the language barrier, but im not giving up . Like true fishermen and women just slippin a few lady fish into a picture can start long conversation, just another reason i like this site so much |
