Arrived in Port A Friday Am around 1 am fished till about 3 but nothing was biting. Jelly fish were everywhere. Took a little nap so we can get a spot to park our pop up camper near Horace Caldwell pier. Decided to give the Port A jetties a try had a couple good bites, but got my whole set up bitten off probably by couple of smacks. Switched my setup to steel leaders but nothing. Other people were catching saw good amount of smacks caught, couple huge kings, and some reds, and bull reds pretty sure they were oversized and didn't see a tag on them. Water clarity was pretty good give it about maybe a 7 or 8. So we packed went to our camper for a little then later that night went back to Charlie's pastor caught couple gafs but was nothing was really biting. Sat am we went to padre tried out the Packery but it was too rough, wind was blowing pretty hard because of the cold front that went through. Waves were about 4-5 ft on both sides. Right when you threw your line on channel current was taking it pretty fast, and if the current wasn't taking you probably wrapped up with some seaweed. Seaweed was getting thick out there so we cancelled Bob Hall pier out of the plans and debated on picking up my yak n hitting the flats right before you hit the ferry, or to give the jetties another try. Will good thing we tried the flats caught two reds right away with some cut skip jack. Was going back to my truck to get some water shoes and lost one of the reds didn't hook him right on my stringer. Damn me rookie mistake. Got back where I was at and caught another but threw him back because he was undersize. After that I caught some hardheads and headed back to my truck so we can pack up n leave. Noticed water had came up considerably my dad told me he had to move my truck because if not my truck would have been in water. So once we pack we went back to Charlie's Pastor and I caught me a 4-5 ft black tip and I told my pops to go get the net from the truck so we can bring him up. Well by the time he made it back the shark had broke off. Couple minutes later I see my rod bend again I run to it cuz it starting dancing like it was getting ready to throw a dive off the pier. Tighten my drag start the fight and snap there goes my line again. Not sure what I had but knew it had to be something good. Was pretty down for a bit and wanted to know what kept snapping my line. Kept fishing around 5 am started putting some of my gear in the truck my dad had left a little earlier to take a lil nap. Told some lady if she can watch my rod real quick while I go put some more stuff in my truck. On the way back I hear her yelling your rod, your rod. I run back sure enough you hear my drag going off the fish was taking my line like crazy. I tighten my spin fisher a lil but gave him a little slack just in case he wants more line. So there we are fighting for about 1.5 hr or 2 hrs finally get him by the pier and some other guy who had just arrived helps me land him in. My biggest fish I've landed in my short career. Usually I would go to Port A to party not no more I go to fish now, and I'm hooked. Here's a pic of the fish didn't have scale or measuring tape to measure him but I'm 5'8" and he's almost my size. We caught him took couple pics and released him so he may populate. Next time maybe I can catch a keeper. Will be back this weekend going on a deep sea trip.

The only good thing about the lost ones is that they can be any size your imagination wants them to be.

Good report....
