I was headed down SPID for another day of work when a radio report came across the airway of an airplane hitting the north tower of the WTC in lower Manhattan.
Twelve years later, were killing ducks and praising God. Sorry terrorists. You lose. _________________

In school. They closed early that day. Student's who's parents worked downtown were sobbing in the hallways. After leaving, we drove the beach on the south shore of Long Island to escape reality and clear our minds, try and comprehend what was happening. Didn't work. As we looked to the west and could see the billowing smoke on the horizon. On the ride back that afternoon there were half a dozen patriotic folk driving different 60's-70's muscle cars down the strip of my home time, honking their horns and screaming USA, waving giant american flags out of the passenger side windows. I'll never forget it. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

I was stationed in Landstuhl, Germany. My Det commander came by and said a plane had crashed in the World Trade Center. We both thought it was a light plane of some sort. When we went to the Colonels office we started watching the news feed. When we saw the second plane hit, we all said simultaneously "We're under attack." I didn't leave the office for 2 weeks. Ended up in Asscrackistan before the end of October.
Lost some really good guys early on.
Feels like yesterday, hurts like yesterday.

On the lighter side, I was teaching at Taft High School and the announcement came over the loudspeaker. Some of the students just heard the words "trade center" and got very upset because "our parents have a booth at the Trade Center" on SPID. Naivete! |

I had walked into my morning class at TAMUK my freshman year and had the professor tell me that school was canceled and that we all needed to go home and he said home not back to the dorm. I thought that was a little weird of him to say that. Got back to Martin Hall and turned on the TV to see all the channels had a plane crashing into the towers. I woke up my roommate and we sat and watched quietly the rest of the morning. A few hours later I headed back home to the valley. A sad day... _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

It was just like yesterday...I was fishing on a campground Pier in St. Augustine, Fl when another fisherman's wife called him on his cell to report the incident. We all thought it was just a small plane...
Wasn't too long after she called again and told him another plane did the same in the second tower. I felt my essence drain from my body at that moment. Packed up my gear and went back to an empty motorhome...at that time I was traveling alone because my husband had died and I had no "home' to go home to.
Watched the TV the rest of the day and most of the night until I fell asleep. When I woke the TV was still on and I just sat there all day in total disbelief and fear. UGH _________________ FishLady

I was on the beltway in a rental car headed to Dulles to fly back home. We were stopped by the District highway patrol right outside of pentagon city and turned around. We got a call from the travel dept and they told us about the no flight mandate. We called the rental car and drove back to Little Rock.
I remember the way everyone seemed calm almost in shock. The on the day and a 1/2 drive back the skies were deep blue, without a plane in sight. |

Crowded around a TV with co-workers. The silence was deafening. Will never forget the look on everyones faces. A feeling I hope to never experience again. God bless all of those who were affected on that day. |

Had just walked in the door from a 24 hour shift (EMS) in Del Rio. Turned on the TV when my radio toned and was recalled for duty on H.E.R.T. for the next 72 hours. _________________ "I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I mean." |

In a patrol car as usual. Had no access to TV or news and all of a sudden the world went nuts. Hundreds of 911 calls, people crying in their cars in parking lots, Instant orders that made no sense. They pulled just about every officer they could and sent them to govt office and hospitals etc.
I ended up being sent from one govt building to another the entire shift.
Watched a recording of the towers falling from a TV in the main library. |
