Looking for a used (experienced) rod and reel for the surf. Where can I go to buy a used rod and reel in the Corpus area?

I was thinking pawn shops. Any feedback would be great.

Thanks

What is your price range and why used?

Price range - not sure. Buy I am expecting to pay a few hundred for a good set up.

Why used - less expensive but I am really hoping to find something already set up with the proper line and leader.

Looking for a bit more than a basic combo.

What are you going to be targeting with it?

Just looking for a heavier rod to leave out in the event that I hook up with something big.

I really don't know enough about surf fishing to know what I need.

Therefore, looking for a place that sells used gear so I can look at and ask questions.

Doesn't Roy's carry some used stuff on consignment?

Check the pawn shop just before wind and wave on spid. They posted they had some larger set ups on craigslist. They didn't list a price though.

I found those pawn shops to be pretty expensive for the quality of stuff. Roy's does have used stuff that is reasonable. For what you want it for you can get new stuff for under a couple hundred. Example: Cabela's "saltstriker"reel runs around $80 and a new 12' rod for under $100 and you are all set

In my personal opinion and experience I am very happy with a 12' ugly stick and a abu Garcia 7000I. Definitely doable under 200 bucks and its all new. Go to Roys tell them what your budget is and they can set you up with an awesome rig you will enjoy. Pawn shops aren't necessarily terrible but you never really know what you will end up with.

Like mentioned above try Roy's. They do have used and they also have a section that may have a scratch or something or display models but are otherwise new just marked down a bit. You can ask them any question you might have and they will give you an honest answer.

Good luck!
