Looking for some feed back and reviews.

Price range mid-30s on high end.

Style of fishing: Drifting with family and get out and wade with those that know how.

Currently I have been partial with Dargel and am nearing a purchase of 186 Dargel Scout with 130 E-tec.

Any do's and or don'ts on this model or even with E-tec? What kind of speed am I currently looking at? I am hearing low to mid 40 mph from the dealer and Dargel. What have others experienced.

Currently outfitting it with boarding ladder, lowrance gps, 6 foot power pole, radio. Not sure if I am missing anything else. Contemplating a trolling motor just to have it all done with.

Any other recommendations out there I should be looking at? My kids are 6 years old and the little one wont see boat time till hes 3?

Thanks
Jesse

These are the best, http://www.transportboats.com/

Can't go wrong with the E-tec, I've had mine for 2+ years, 0 problems, it's fast, jumps up quick, burns very little oil, and very quiet for a 2 stroke.

Ttop, Hydraulic jack plate, Ipilot for that trolling motor. Replace that Lowrance with a bird sonar/gps. another Power pole, just to be tart! Very Happy

Man, way to think this thing through.

My thoughts, random as they may be might be helpful, maybe not.

Power pole, Difference in price between 6 and 8 foot, go with the 8. Even though you anchor in shallow, the 2 extra feet may pay off with little ones in the boat...you never know. But in any case, never use the PP as a sole anchor if you leave the boat to wade fish!!

Are you looking for new or used? If you have time to shop, you have more money at the end of the day. If you can consider gently used, get a good boat mechanic to evaluate any used boat/motor you fall in love with. (Invest any money you save in your kiddos college fund!!)

Family time out on the water means fun in the sun here in South Texas. Remember shade!! Canopies are a pain when fishing from the boat, but you can go with an open platform and purchase aftermarket temporary shade such as a large sport umbrella. I mention this because the little ones can tend to get really burnt.

E-Tec rules and with my limited experience with that bad boy, would recommend.

Finally (and I'm not a Baptist preacher that loves to listen to myself...LOL) sacrificing something new, for a vessel maybe a bit used but larger...maybe 20', you may benefit from a slightly wider beam, gaining more stability.

You get what you pay for... Very Happy

Happy hunting!!

Thanks for replies so far.

I was leaning for 6' power pole just to keep low profile. I have an 8' currently and it seems like a beast.

Used? Right now I am gun shy as my first used boat cost me out the rear!

Ill go with adding a trolling motor to just be done with it.

I have never fished on boat with t-top but I will add that on as I get more ideas/designs for a top.

College fund- I will be entering them in CCA star tourney to win a scholarship.

Lol

Thanks again for replies so far.

Completely agree with what lefty said. The difference between a 18 and 20' boat is worth every penny. If I had known now.....

I heard this when I was younger and didn't appreciate it until recently. If your buying a boat or buying a plane, "Do not settle for less than exactly what you want". if it won't get you to where you want to go it will suck.

Best boat you have never heard of Marshall Intimidator, dry, fast and solid.

BTW, great pre-buy approach.

I would like to go with a 20' but that's stretching/past my budget. And I just want to go new. I can probably scratch out a 20' but I won't be able to get my add ons and may not also get it powered appropriately.
Plus if I buy new it would be hard for me to take it in to get stuff done to it. I'd like to hope it will only visit shop for maintenance.
Thx

How do you keep young children in or on a Dargel?? Not much in the way of sides/rails to corral the young ones. Would you take a Dargel out Packery even on a calm day??

If you are going to have a T top build think about making it removable. I bought a boat with that feature and I love it. When I'm not using it it hangs up in the rafters of my boathouse. When I need it I have four little pully's that drop it down, 8 bolts later, I have shade. it also makes it possible for me to raise the boat much higher in the boathouse, When its not installed I can shift it out of the way for a higher lift. i use it for family trips and summer fishing.

If you can look at the "add ons" as in investment, you are back on track with the kids college fund. Shocked Laughing Shocked Laughing

Currently I have a fisherman model like zias. My daughter has gotten around boat with out worry. As far as going out of packery- not my cup of tea so I wouldn't consider it.

The Scout offers somewhat of a side but is not like the scooter model.

I used to have a 186 Skout and loved it. I sold it and now have a 210 Skout if that tells you anything. I have a 140 4 stroke Suzuki on it but if I could do it again I would have gone with a few more HP. Love the motor though.

I recently priced a majek red fish line 21ft base model, which means nothing but boat, motor (150 yamie) and trailer. The "out the door price" was 42k.

$42K.....dang.

There are some new EPA/emission standards coming out for 2014 and Dargel boats not sure of others will be increasing prices roughly $2k-$2500. And frankly that may be a deal breaker as far as getting some of my extras on my wish list.

I should have bought new 4 years ago when I was looking then. I am pretty sure I was right at $20K for what I am looking at today.
