|
|
Watch the Gulf the end of this week into next week. Accuweather is predicting a storm in the NW Caribbean or southern Gulf.
" A second tropical wave will approach 30 west on Monday with scattered showers. A surge in moisture is noted in the eastern Caribbean and this pocket of plentiful atmospheric moisture will continue to move west through the Caribbean and perhaps into the Gulf of Mexico toward the upcoming weekend, causing some showers and thunderstorms as it progresses. Computer models are hinting at the possible development of an area of low pressure later this week in the northwestern Caribbean or southern Gulf of Mexico. With atmospheric conditions over the Gulf forecast to become somewhat conducive for development, this system will have to be watched." |

| It's the time of the year for the tropics to get rolling. Seems that Aug - Sept yield many a storm. |

Read a few reports that only give it a 10% chance of developing into a tropical system. A little rain storm wouldn't hurt... _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

I have not lived in Corpus all my life, and upon my arrival several years ago, I thought a hurricane might be a unique experience. After preparing for them several times now, my thoughts have changed. Frog soakers - okay, but anything else - stay away.
I need some help here:
With exception of Fern (a frog soaker), no major hurricane past the letter "C" has directly struck Corpus. In addition, those names with beginning with letter A, B, or C, that have struck have been in August to October range. This means not a lot of hurricanes throughout the summer.
I am not a weather forecaster nor do I pretend to be, but it is interesting. |

"Chances are looking better now"
That statement sure comes with a double meaning doesn't it?? On the one hand Texas is desperate for rain, on the other hand ....well, how do you get the rain without the wind. I have been thinking of buying a second house down in Corpus - if I do, get ready for storms. |

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
800 AM EDT WED AUG 14 2013
FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
1. SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE COULD BE
FORMING BETWEEN THE NORTHEASTERN TIP OF HONDURAS AND THE CAYMAN
ISLANDS WHERE THE SHOWER ACTIVITY HAS BECOME CONCENTRATED DURING THE
PAST SEVERAL HOURS. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE FAVORABLE FOR ADDITIONAL
DEVELOPMENT OF THIS DISTURBANCE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS...AS
IT MOVES NORTHWESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH TOWARD THE YUCATAN PENINSULA
AND SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO. THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM CHANCE...50
PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48
HOURS...AND A HIGH CHANCE...60 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL
CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 5 DAYS. INTERESTS IN THE YUCATAN PENINSULA
AND THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS
DISTURBANCE.

Just in from the Corpus Christi NWS email to me
Hello South Texas Emergency Managers, Media Partners, and Spotters,
The tropical disturbance in the northwest Caribbean Sea is getting better organized. The National Hurricane Center indicates that this system has a medium chance (50%) of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours, and high chance (60%) over the next 5 days. A hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate this system at 4pm this afternoon. It's too early to speculate on where this system will go, considering that a center of circulation has yet to be identified. At this time, the range of model solutions span an area from Mexico to Alabama. Detailed e-mail briefings will be initiated from our office if/when this system develops. Stay Tuned! |

| From Mexico to Alabama??? Uh-oh.... Earlier they were predicting it would hit from Mississippi to FL, now it sounds like we may be more of a target. Might be time to start thinking about battening down the hatches....or at least getting ready to do so should it become necessary. |
