My son works summers as a lifeguard in Portland and he and his buds worked the Kidfish event at the pier on Saturday. Lots of sponsors, including HEB, who donated hotdogs for all the kids. My boy said there were a lot of happy kids, and sad hardheads and ribbon fish. Good to get kids interested as early as possible.
Saturday night, after striking out earlier in the day at the jetties and Pt. A surf, I thought I'd give the pier a try, but it was worse than the mall. People were so crowded with lawn chairs and coolers and such, that it would have been hard to get past the second light. I gave the last of my shrimp away and headed home. Maybe it was families who didn't want their kids in the heat earlier, or maybe the pier just got some publicity. It was crazy. I guess I'll have to find another night spot. I like people, I just like some space between them and me. And the funny thing is that with the low tide, the fishing off I. Pt. pier has been super slow. |
